I can't see us bringing in Tilt. He is ok at L2 level, I guess. But we should be targeting better players at a better age

Just “OK” at L2 isn’t “OK” at L1. As cheap back up cover maybe, but he won’t be cheap , so it’s a no from me.

 

Probably his Agent wanting to get the edge in negotiations. Feel sorry for the lad tbh. He has been bombarded with city fans telling him how bad he is and making it know emphatically he is not welcome.

 

Social media goes far beyond what is acceptable I don’t Want Tilt to sign but to be bombarded on line over a Twitter rumour shouldn’t be acceptable

 

Don't actually think it is us giving duff info. I think we are possibly not giving some agents a definite e and letting them get on with the muck spreading. Whatever twitter says, I really can't see us moving heaven and earth to bring in a 34 years old L2 cb.

 

I listened to a podcast years back, fairly certain it was the one by the Peterborough chairman. But I remember him saying they were trying to move on a player but it leaked out before the deal was even signed and sealed. The player and his agent were scanning twitter and a fans message board, they contacted the buying club and Peterborough to say they are pulling out because he doesn't want to go there. They did their best to change his mind but his mind was made up and he ended up going elsewhere.

With these things, it's always a thing to be about who leaks it? Sometimes or more often than not you'd think it's agents to try and get the other teams they were negotiating with to come back in and gazump other teams for a bigger contract. But sometimes i wouldn't be surprised if clubs leak out info to see fan reactions before things are signed, especially up the top of the pyramid.

 

I wouldn't be happy with the signing of tilt, another 30 something looking for his last payday move of his career.
With the Salford link weren't we looking at there young Irish centre half on loan from Oxford United during the season,Stephen negru

 

I wasn’t enamoured with him either, but yes one for the future , but not needed right now?

 

Judging by how quiet it is from the club over Smallwood and transfers I think at least part of the powers that be must be on holiday at the moment

 

It has certainly rattled me catman, I was shocked to the core.

 

Well if fan power has stopped the club making a move, or Tilt been turned off - then I am glad it has worked on this occasion.

 

I hope he signed his new Salford contract asap! Seemed to be a lot of noise in a short space of time yesterday which makes me think its actually real. He's a left sided CB, so I wonder if Kelly is off and he's slotting in there? If he's the old head and we also sign some guy in his early 20s to learn from an old head and be the understudy at LCB to take over next season, i kinda get it. Other than that, it makes little sense.

 

That's completely made up just because I voiced my opinion on two signings.

 

And Cheik Diabste who for the record started 1 less game for us than Byrne did last season for Stockport so clearly must have been a vital cog in our promotion push too.

 

Whilst I agree with the Tilt consensus, and the Byrne one for that matter, it seems that GA almost works on the sum of all parts being better than the individuals
Defensively we were, with the odd exception, very good last season without having any outstanding individuals at centre half other than maybe Shepherd.
If Tilt was or is to come as an old head, with a couple more agile centre halves with pace signed as well I wouldn’t have much of an issue.
We do desperately need a yard of pace across the back three from somewhere
