Its a very L2 type signing. The kind Bowyer or Delboy would have made.

 

I'd explain it but I'm tired of being labelled a doom merchant when I'm tell people that signings like Ash Taylor and Neill Byrne aren't good enough.

 

Neill Byrne was good enough. He played 30 games in a promotion winning team and 20 games in a promotion winning team the year before.

 

He certainly aint good enough for L1. He was our worst CB by a country mile last term IMO.

 

See. The manipulation of stats and the refusal to use your eyes is exactly why it's pointless replying to people like yourself and the reason I'm bowing out.

 

You're bowing out because you can't say a player wasn't good enough for League 2, when he got promoted out of that League for 2 years running. That's bonkers!

 

Tilt would've been an impressive signing 7/8 years ago during his pomp at Blackpool and Wigan. Once upon a time he was a pretty good defender. Now though, it'd be atrocious. Been a mainstay in an at best midtable League Two team for a couple of years now. And he's (almost?) 34 now, it would be a bizarre signing.

I didnt like him following City on Twitter....didnt like that at all.

 

He / Agent could be trying to up the deal ante with his own club and using it as a bargaining tool . It’s all too strange for me . ( He’s currently negotiating with Salford isn’t he?)

 

That means he was part of two squads that got promotion, two good squads, not necessarily that he was a good player in those squads!!

Oduor, Benn, etc were part of the squad too.

Seeing is believing....and as Monkey has said, actually on the pitch he was v poor!! I used to wince when his name was on the teamsheet!! Pretty sure (without checking stats etc!) that his performances coincided with our poor runs of form in the season!!

We need much better!!

 

I'm not having that you play 50 games over two seasons in League 2, for two different Manager's, get two promotions from League 2, and you're not good enough for League 2.

 

If you can’t fathom the difference between collective achievement and individual performance then there’s no helping you. It’s perfectly possible to be a poor player in a good team.

 

Just listened to the latest Hard Truth podcast. Darragh says that this time of year is awful for new signings because most players are on holiday so agents quote high wages to clubs. Better to wait until preseason training begins about 20th June when players and agents are more desperate to find a club and their wage demands are more realistic.

 

Salford's statement on their retained list said he was in discussions with them and I didn't find anything yesterday to say that the discussions have ended so we have to assume they're still in discussions.

 

Salford won’t say anything until Tilt does which is what happened with Smallwood.

 

Clarke Oduor is currently a perfectly good example of this exact argument. He played 19 games (893 mins) in L2 this season for us. Byrne played 16 games (937 mins) in L2 for Stockport in their promotion. It will be hard to fine any L2 promotion chaser will be calling us up wanting Oduor, assuming he was some promotion key.

We've watched Clarke for 2 years, nobody would say thay lad is good enough for L2 and he played pretty much juat as much a role in our promotion as Byrne did at Stockport.

 

Although he did score the equaliser at Barrow on New Year's Day. Without that point we wouldn't have gone up automatically, so arguably he did win promotion for us. Arguably...

 

What about your eyes? You must have seen him play so what did your eyes tell you about how good he was? If you thought he wasn't our worst defender then that would suggest to me you see a different game to everyone else

 

You didn't rate any of the defenders last season though and thought the defence was awful and yet it ended up being the 2nd best in the league, so perhaps you're maybe not the best judge of it
