Really? As a footballer you are a very long time retired. If he has a family, mortgage etc and an uncertain future I imagine getting as much dosh as possible out of what is probably his last payday as a player would be top of his priority list.

    Yes, really
He will have earned more money than most of us could ever have imagined
If he hasn’t had the foresight to make sure he is well set up for his retirement, then more fool him
Also why can’t football players have another career once they stop playing
£3000 per week at league two level is a wage I would love to earn in my profession

Players know their worth, why should they work for less just because they have a connection with a club?

Of course he can, and probably will, have another career after retiring from playing. But many footballers don’t have much in the way of educational qualifications and aren’t necessarily astute businessmen.
The fact that he’s already earned lots of money probably means that he has a big mortgage and expectations of an expensive lifestyle to maintain. Tales of ex-footballers falling on hard times are legion. Retirement from playing is a time of uncertainty for many.
I just think that if I were coming to the end of my playing career I’d be looking to get as much from my last contract as possible and I think most others would too. It’s not a time for sentiment.

Is this a surprise, not sure. It's a risk to go or to stay and hope they improve so time will tell

    Do you know it’s less?
It could just as easily be more, but with incentives
Would you have offered Jamie walker more knowing that his influence on the team is diminishing In my opinion, city’s stance last season was spot on

They may not be highly educated, but they also have agents and the PFA guiding them
I just think we are living in an age of greed and grab all you can

Wow ,MK are as mad as some of the other clubs
Big gamble on a 37 year old and must have topped Notts offer
I hope it backfires on them
Never liked them and the way the FA allowed them entry to the football league through the back door

There was a suggestion on a County fan video this am that he may be retiring as they expected his injury to see him miss the first two months of the next season ? I don’t know personally , just going by the vid . Feasible I suppose but so is the oil money ?

Call it an educated guess. You've kinda answered your own question, Jamie clearly felt he was worth a contract in league 2 and so chose to back his judgement. Same with McGoldrick, he clearly feels he is worth more than the clubs opinion of him, either in monetary or length of contract. He might be the wrong side of 30 but as shown last season he is levels above league 2 when fit.

I know of a few who buy and then rent the property out when they leave for pastures new.

Maybe he went for less money as he's got plenty anyway and just fancied a change or summat.

MK Dons are going the Wrexham route of signing all the old people before they retire. Bold move

Rumour on the MK side is that they've nearly doubled the Notts offer. He was on a rumoured £5k a week at Notts but their lot believe he was offered 1 year on reduced terms. MK could well have offered him £5k or £6k a week for his final season and he's thought F it, money is money.
