But a season doesn't come down to single moments. They have many opportunities to get promotion but bottled it

It should have been in their own hands...... if that complete idiot of a player they had actually stuck his head onto the ball in the last kick of the game against Newport rather than handling it in, our last minute goal wouldn't have even mattered. They had their chances and constantly fluffed their lines, but even when it was literally on a play for their own last kick winner, they had a moron try and cheat his way to the win.

A season is made up of many single moments, thats what defines football. Just the phrase bottlejob that irks me, gets thrown around like confetti at a wedding. Teams can so easily go on a bad run as much as a good run, in Walsalls case it was an extreme an example as you could wish to see.

We could easily have been saying the same about our captain costing us promotion if it wasn't for a huge slice of ladyluck. I've got no axe to grind with Walsall, the writing was on the wall for them the moment they didn't replace Nathan Lowe, the guy they brought in was national league level at best.

The fact is that from the point we walloped Walsall in January, onwards, their form was relegation form. All they had to do to get automatic promotion was avoid being one of the worst two teams in the division for the remainder of the season, and they couldn’t do it. So, for me, it would have been a travesty seeing them get promoted via the playoffs.
Not quite as big a travesty as seeing Spurs get Champion’s League Football next season for winning the Europa League whilst finishing 17th in the PL (ie bottom of all the unrelegated clubs). But that’s another story o_O

I had one over riding thought, watching that payoff final:

Thank God we're out of that bloody awful league, and let's hope we never go back.

Absolutely lets put it behind us and move forward, that horrible division is like a recurring nightmare.

Maybe bringing Lowe to the club and getting Matt capable of playing 40+ games at 35 years of age and being top of the league 10 points clear was enough to convince the owner Sadler was worth a 3 year deal, I'm not disagreeing it was a strange call just saying you see many examples of owners making strange calls, just look at the MK Dons and Carlisle situations and the poor calls they have made during their short tenure at their respective clubs.

Everyone forgets they are another US owned club, seemingly one that’s very thrifty?

Unfortunately, that map is not quite right.

A check has identified that the centre spot at Bloomfield Road is approximately 50 metres further north than the centre spot at Valley Parade.

EDIT: The last time we were the most northerly club in our division was 2002/03, but only by a fraction from Burnley and Preston.

Cheers! I did wonder how close it might be with Blackpool.

    Great research.

I think these are the most northerly/westerly/easterly/southerly clubs we have played in league matches:
    • Southerly and Westerly - Plymouth Argyle who we will be playing this coming season.
    • Easterly - Norwich City who we last met in 2003/04. This coming league season it will be Leyton Orient
    • Northerly - Ashington who we last met in 1928/29 (Of current Premier/Football League clubs, then the most northerly is Newcastle United wh we last met in 2000/01). And, of course, this coming league season it will be Blackpool.

Centre circle , but does their pitch run north/south like ours
The back of the kop could be further north

    Pretty much, yes.

    It isn't.

However, those who sit in the Kop at City, may find themselves a few metres further south if they go in the southern section of the away side at Blackpool. For them, their bit of Valley Parade will be further north than the bit of Bloomfield Road they will be in.
