I was astonished to find out that a friend (professional footballer) of ours was getting more money in the NL than he was when they were in L2.

 

Not surprising because they don’t have the spending regime that the EFL clubs have to adhere to.

 

Mansfield were really hanging on in the last few weeks.Just managed in the end,but have put a lot of players up for offers.

 

Walker’s mrs tweeted out a few days ago, which was liked by City Vent (or similar) saying something along the lines of ‘you know when you just find that City where everything clicks’ etc…..and that being Bradford for them. Sounds like they are really settled in the area with young kids.

I spoke to him at the POY awards and he sounded gutted but was realistic that he was likely going to be moved on this summer. Really nice bloke, talented player to boot, and I loved seeing him, after all that, partying so hard during the celebrations.

best of luck Jamie. Thanks for all of your efforts. I rated him very highly - he could do a job for someone in League One or Two, or NL.

 

Its a shame. If he had signed that deal last summer he would probably still be with us next term and have a part to play - but looks like club is moving on now.

 

National League clubs can spend whatever they want which is why silly money is throw around at that level, it also a way of playing the system if you get promoted as contracts signed when outside the EFL get capped at what goes towards the salary cap. Even going lower down there will be players in the National League North/South on £50,000+ per year

Remember City offered Jamie Walker a two year contract last summer which he turned down. I bet he regrets that now.

 

But was on reduced wages and based heavily on bonuses where the one year deal he did sign was on slightly better terms of his previous 2 yr contract as that's what was built into the clubs option of an extra year. So in theory he will have gained.

 

Im not so sure he gained as of now. The 2 year deal will have been worth more than 1 year collectively - there had to be some incentive to sign it. When he finds a new club and gets a new deal he will have gained. But there could be the added inconvenience of having to move, not getting a deal that was comparative to what was offered 12 months ago.

 

Walker will definitely get another club and I would imagine he won't need to move either. Don't be surprised to see York be interested if they do come up.

 

I dont doubt that. Just saying his new deal might be on lesser terms than the 2 year deal we offered last summer.

Guess we will never know.

 

Be interesting to see what happens with Lewis Richards.

Walker will be a top earner his departure will free up a decent salary. We should have released him last summer his heart hasn’t been in it this season

 

His heart was in it when he ripped Cheltenham a new one.

I just don't think he's an impact sub, he needs the 90 to torment defences.
