I guess it would have to be considered. Not sure Stuart would/could be just an assistant though.

Happy for Smallwood to stay, providing he stays off the free kicks

Gary Jones had one year in league one before he was released at the end of the contract.

It isn't quite as easy to recruit European players post Brexit. The best option is to identify those who already held UK residency prior to Brexit. That's the easiest route for those already in the UK. If they don't have UK residency, first of all they need a Sportsperson's work permit which the FA authorise. Until recently, that meant having played at the international level .. which is a problem for lower league clubs. The FA's work permit criteria have been widened slightly for players referred to having exceptional or special talents.

The best that can now happen for lower league clubs is to bide their time for a couple of years. After that period those players who already have a work permit previously granted by the FA and have played a proportion of their games in the first team can move elsewhere with their work permit, including to lower league clubs. There have been a few examples of some players doing just that but it isn't that common.

How did NCounty sign Jatta ? Signed in Jan 2024 . He didn’t become an international until Nov 2024 . I was always curious.

I've no idea. My guess is that having played at European clubs pre and post Brexit prior to joining County, he had some residency rights under the Brexit transition arrangements. But that really is a guess.

I'd suggest a Tier 2 sports person work permit. You don't need to be an International just a professional sports person. These are quite common in county cricket

If he played cricket, I'd agree with you. But an ECB Tier 2 permit doesn't apply to other sports. ;)

Well lets hope they are. Adaramola already has a failed L1 spell at Stockport but at least we have Richards in that position.

I was trying to work that out before you suggested the same . He joined his Norwegian club in 2019 and was there not quite 5 years until Jan 2024 . I’m struggling to see the transition arrangements fit it tbh. As he wasn’t earring his living in the UK after 2020 . He didn’t have a visa prior to the transfer either which I thought only applied if an international player . ( He wasn’t) .

A side issue but does prove these players are out there.

    Jatta signed on an ESC basis (Elite Significant Contribution). Criteria set out below, largely linked to international status, but some others too but the criteria do give wider scope for these types of players other than just being a senior international;

What does ‘Elite Significant Contribution’ mean?

The new regulations state that a player will be deemed an ‘ESC Player’ if “the Player is an elite player and will make a significant contribution to the sport”. In this respect, the FA expects the player to have satisfied one or more of the following conditions:

played in at least one Youth Competitive International Match for a national team ranked in the top 50 places in the FIFA World Rankings; or

played in at least 5 Youth Competitive International Matches for a national team ranked outside the top 50 places in the FIFA World Rankings; or

played in at least one Continental Youth Competition Match; or

played in at least five Domestic Youth Competition Matches; or

played in at least one Senior Competitive International Match for a national team ranked in the top 50 places in the FIFA World Rankings; or

played in at least five Senior Competitive International Matches for a national team ranked outside the top 50 places in the FIFA World Rankings; or

played in at least one match in a Continental Competition; or

played in at least five Domestic Senior Competition Matches.

It should be noted, however, that ‘Domestic Youth Competition Matches’ only covers certain domestic leagues worldwide, and clubs will therefore need to carefully consider the regulations when evaluating whether a player is capable of being an ‘ESC Player’.

League One and Two teams can each register two ESC players. Believe the Faroese lad Grimsby signed is via this route too.

Thanks for posting …..In other words someone needs a degree in footy logistics to sign these players . That’s what we pay Gent for , I assume ?

Adaramola has an Irish passport. I am no expert but I thought the rules were different for Irish citizens. Maybe someone can explain.

Their fans were not too complimentary on him and Stockport didn't extend his spell. This is whu he dropped to L2.

That said he has 6 months extra experience under his belt and knows what GA wants from him.

I feel he'd do well in league one for us. Knows the team and style of play, settled in, still a bit rough around the edges but had the pace to worry oppositions.

Folk always jump to this "we need better" but we can't sign someone brilliant in every position and some positions are trickier to recruit for, like wing backs, not loads of teams use them.
