    The likes of Man United don't send their genuine prospects for their first team, on Loan to League 2. It's a poor example. Their real prospects go to the Championship, and that's who we need to be competing with for loan signings. We need to see ourselves are unique in the League One loan market. Vastly different landscape to Walsall signing players in League Two.

    We've done it before with the likes of Cullen and Burke. That's the level.

    Shoulda Woulda Coulda. I don't know what injuries Donny and Vale had, but i do know that in that final quarter of the season when the pressure was on, they looked much better.

    As I say, right now we're all elated. But when it comes to what's needed, it's much more about material additions than tweaks.

    100% , b@110cks to sentimentality . It’s a recipe for coming straight back down. Hard decisions have to be made , players we love and like will be on the list , some on this forum will not like it but we need to ask ourselves what outcome do we want next season ?Tough decisions will be made and I suspect Sharp will be the driver .

    And if the level of ruthlessness needed to make a splash in League One after going up from League Two needs a demonstration..... Antoni Sarcevic. Seen as surplus to requirements at Stockport despite being a regular for them in League Two.....

    Again, don't disagree with that at all. I'd even go as far as saying the way things unfolded over the last few weeks will probably be much better for us in the long run than had we won the league with ease.

    No but Sharpe is, who really likes him, tried to sign him for Wigan, signed him for Mansfield, signed him for us. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

    They have with an eye on a bit of continuity. Don’t want players introducing themselves on day one. Team spirit goes along way especially at first we need quality over quantity this summer

    Does S Walker only get a year? Some of the saves have been crucial. Of the top of my head, Colchester, Crewe, fleetwood

    It’s not a poor example in response to the original comment , it works both ways , I gave an example of this so called player from a “top” local team . Mellon is another …..Really if we want to progress I’d drive him back over the Pennines myself. He’s struggling to make L2 never mind L 1 .
    On the opposite side of the coin , the gems are out there , aka Lowe who now cant buy a game at Stoke . I don’t buy into this “ Top club so he must be good” mentality . Also Tayo loaned to L2 . He’s done well and a real “ improver” and worth another loan.

    We went up in 2013 and Gary Jones was released. I think the same fate for Smallwood awaits.

    The manner of the end on Saturday, made it the greatest explosion of joy I've had following City. Better than getting to, or staying in the PL. Just the 'how' of it all, will make it a standalone.

    He wasn't seen as surplus. They offered him a 1 year deal, but he wanted two years.

    We're arguing different points. My point, is that we need to be targeting strong prospects from the best clubs/academies. The kind who are considered in need of stronger tests than League 2. It's not that every young player from a big club is a guarantee - it's the being a League 1 club with 23k fans in the ground, is a vastly different propostion and opens up the door for very different targets than a 6k home gate in League 2.

    Smallwood definitely won’t be released. He may walk away for a better offer but not released

    I maybe set it out wrong- but they clearly didn't make a strong enough move to keep him. Still an example of ruthlessn planning. 'Thanks for getting us here, you can have a year and be part of the squad, but good luck if you have a better offer'.

    Not quite true Gary Jones had one season with us in league 1 and was then released in 2014. Smallwood is fit enough for another deal with us.
