Looking at demand for tickets for a 4th division game is it now time for the club to look at ground expansion IF we rise up the leagues?

I guess we would need to own it first but imagine if the Bfd End was re developed to swing round to the main stand with new offices/changing rooms etc replacing the existing building and then MR both ends filled in like the NW corner and maybe another tier on top of MR. Would likely give us a 35K ground capacity which I feel would be about right IF we were in the Championship especially looking to give good numbers to away fans.

    We can but dream.

People go bonkers at the end of the season.

35k would give us the 4th largest stadium in the Championship.

I'd love the Bradford End doing up purely from an aesthetic point of view. Would imagine it would have to be something along the lines of the Aviva in Dublin, where it sweeps round and is lower behind the goal.

But realistically never going to happen.

It would look a bit empty on a Tuesday night in February

Aren’t the rules to give either 10% or 2,000 to away fans, whichever is lowest. I think unless we became an established PL club we don’t need to bother, but getting the Bradford Road end to 2k would be good then we could just give every team that exclusively unless it’s a cup game.

Great idea but watch when ticket prices start to jump up should we rise through the divisions and see how many folk fall by the wayside.

Look at the possible games next season and how cheap tickets are we should be pushing on for 20k season ticket holders but we wont :(

Btw lets not forget that we are on a good time roll so the 24k turning up could easily drop down to actually 8k supporters in the ground should things go wrong ........

Back in the premiership days Richmond had plans drawn up to make the ground into a 36k capacity stadium.

It was a Richmond pipe dream back in the day, two tiers on the midland road stand, a stand like the kop at the Bradford end.

We don’t even own the ground so we couldn’t do that at the moment. The main stand needs to be extended the full length of the pitch eventually.

I know my dad still has the old clipping from the T&A when Richmond put it forward. I believe if memory saves me right the council were prepared to give the go ahead for an extension on the midland road stand which would have looked similar to ath Madrid old ground with the road running underneath however the council wanted the club established in the premier league for a few more seasons first so was turned down at that time. The Bradford end would somehow have held 5k as well if it would have gone ahead.

For all of GR's dreams for the future of VP, his initial plan to extend the main stand towards the Bradford end was the only bit to be submitted formally to the local Council. When it was appreciated how the local roads would have to be moved and many local houses compulsorily purchased and demolished, the planners wouldn't or couldn't support the extension. GR then withdrew the planning application rather than face the ignominy of it being refused. The rest of his dream was just that .. a dream.

Would look a bit silly with 6 k in the ground on a cold February evening hosting Stevenage or Exeter

I think if the day comes where we are close to selling out through season tickets then the conversation could be had, not based on one sell out in 10 years or so

It's pretty much a non-starter isn't it? Even if we owned the ground, there's too many outside of our control issues in the area to ever expand beyond what we have.

Agreed. You can probably count on the fingers of one hand where the stadium hasn't been big enough since the capacity was increased. The building work on the main stand only completed after our Premier League relegation season and other than a handful of Cup games we have never sold out.

I was once told we have a stand comparable for each division we've been in , which made me chuckle as It's very true.
