Interested to know what folk thought of it? Personally I loved it, the razzmatazz, the lights and pyrotechnics made it feel a big occasion. I'm all for this sort of stuff, I was brought up on raves and it had that feel about it.

Yeah I loved it too. The lights, the music were all great. I wish we had more going on at home to attract fans to arrive early, in fact even to arrive at all for Tues games. Ha

Given we don't have the cash to spunk on fireworks for the foreseeable, the best way of attracting people to games is by superb performances on the pitch, just like yesterday evening.

I quite liked it, with the exception of the guy on the mic who was a painful listen

It helps that Food for Thought is a proper tune!

Agree about the fireworks, those are unnecessary. I’m more talking about the music and other stuff around the stadium.

I absolutely hated it. I wanted to get in early to soak up the atmosphere but in the stands it was pitch black and all you could here was the music. Might aswell have been at a concert rather than a footy match. Even after the game there was no singing or celebrating, it was back to the overbearing music and a bit of dancing in the stands. Very family orientated but a million miles away from what football should be.

It's probably me being old and miserable but I'd hate for that to become the regular thing, week in week out.

Went a La Liga game last week in Mallorca and the pre match build up was great. Music from a band in the stands, but shown on the big screen. Drummers on the pitch doing 'we will rock you' and the fire things which they had last night plus the lights show from the floodlights. Not sure it would work at 3.00 on a Sat afternoon at VP but it certainly got the crowd going.

When I take a game in abroad there is a stark contrast in the match day experience although I suspect from some of the post in this thread some like the understated turn up for 90 minutes and go home approach. No right or wrong opinion but from my own experience I much prefer last night or the European model to what we have.

Neutral. As a one off all the razamataz is cracking, the atmosphere provided last night (and thinking back to Wembley in the cup Final) provided real entertainment and built up the excitement.

Generally not a chance, imagine a cold wet Tuesday night against Colchester (other dire teams available) with that malarkey. Give us a bit of 90s throwback barely audible on our "state of the art audio system" anyday!!!!!!

As @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey alluded, couldn't hear the person next to you talk. At least at VP you can hear 3 rows forward for a conversation.

That’s because there’s usually empty rows in between.

We would certainly have to upgrade our shitty PA system at VP to get the full experience.

I’m very much with you on this. Get to the ground ten minutes before KO. Quick chat with the guys around me about the team selection, opposition etc. Watch the match. Leave at the final whistle. Get home as quickly as possible. Job’s a good ‘un.
I’m there to watch a football match. I’ve no interest in fireworks or other fripperies.

Hated it personally, one of the best bits of trekking to away games is the pre match atmosphere. Completely killed it imo

See you at Salford then for the fantastic pre match atmosphere…..and a piss in a portaloo.
I ‘trek’ to pretty much every away game and I’m struggling to recall any in the last few years with any memorable pre match atmosphere.

Ditto , I don’t even like the pre match line up and shake hands twaddle and flag waving nonsense.

    Aye a grumpy get ;)

Give me the Top Secret Drum Corps at half time though , mind you it would ruin the grass;)

Just don’t see the appeal personally, Couldn’t see a lot as it was pitch black and all I could hear was distorted music, all but covering up any chant we attempted to do.

The inaudible muffle that comes through the PA system in the upper Kop would suggest that lights, music and razzamatazz is something well beyond the club capabilities.
