It really wasn't!!!!! I thought there was potential cover and he was far enough away from goal to introduce some doubt. I respect the views of others who think it was a red but no way can this be described as a clear red!

What was their striker planning on doing? Running towards the corner flag to waste time instead of running free through on goal? In what world is it not a clear goalscoring opportunity?

Amazing decision by the referee there. It wasn't freekick until Newport gave the ball away and then it was. Amazing referee. Give him the Champions League final!!

I would say he's just offside but as you say it is very tight, he's leaning towards the goal where the defender is more forward and his foot looks to be just closer to the 18 yard line than the defender in the middle.
