He has! He is retiring Carlisle out of the EFL.

I hope Carlisle fans realise that his game is possession based and the back 4 will make approximately 1 to 2 thousand sideways passes per game. "To the left, to the right"-one of the funniest chants we have come up with in recent years.

 

I think he will do really well there

 

only a few years ago Carlisle were supercilious, the winners and we were rock bottom, we were all gutted and I seem to remember we had people coming on here to gloat. New owners and a one way ticket up the leagues!

Roll forward a couple of years and we could be League One and they could be in Non League.

I though Mike Williamson seemed a nice guy and didn't want them to go down, but now its Sparky in charge I really would have little sympathy if it all goes belly up for them, its not a career to him its another ego trip to play about at.

It's a funny old game.

 

I didn’t mind Hughes as a man, great guy, and to be fair he gave us some of them best times in recent years. But he really didn’t do us or himself any favours over the following summer and in the early season, almost like he didn’t have any kind of plan.

I wish him well, but for me GA is by far the superior manager. He just seems to get this club and has a real structure, focus and determination about his work.

 

I respect a manager who is humble and acknowledges the fans and I haven't heard that much from Hughes, but I might have missed it. Just bleating about being sacked too soon, but it had gotten pretty dire and everyone was bored. Changing the formation of a winning team seemed the consensus.

I cannot say if GA is the superior manager, his cv doesn't compare with MH, its results based business, GA is doing well right now and its good to watch.

 

Watched a bit of the Carlisle game at the weekend. They were awful. Grimsby deservedly won… And check out the stats too! Be a tall order for them to stay up, and Hughes has a real job on his hands.

 

I'm still not convinced by that tackle by the keeper at the end of the first half, he got nothing off the ball but it was hard to see if he did get the player. That could have easily been given and it would have been 2-0 going into half time.

Second half Grimsby battered them. Anyhow it's not games away to Grimsby that will seal anything for Carlisle, it's their next few games. Newport, Colchester and Gillingham (the latter 2 at home) which are fixtures that will be seen as those which will make a difference.
