I really like Walker and always have. However given the contract situation and form when he has played this season it feels best for both parties he moves on in this window. He’s too good to not be playing games, but just doesn’t fit our plans.

He signed a new deal last season believed to put him on about 7-8k a week. Then when they went up there was a wage rise percentage on all Wrexham contracts which is a standard thing for all clubs, but they tend to be between 20-30% depending on the deal.

 

Thing is, who could guarantee him regular game time?. No club looking to loan somebody should sell themselves down that river. Look at Mellon, GA has clearly not promised the player or Burnley that he plays most weeks, and that is how it should be, earn the right.

Watt has been dropped for the last three games and Burton's performances have improved markedly apparently. His form seems to have dropped off.

What it says is he wants to go on loan because he wants senior football and not to play in the under 23s. I feel that's a positive attitude not to be sniffed at. Many are happy to stay and get paid.

It then says he wants to go somewhere where he has more chance of playing. Fair play to him. Nothing wrong with a player backing his ability.

 

Overrated how? In terms of what?

As far as L2 goes he has been a goal machine in recent years and would be an excellent signing. But there is little chance he drops to L2.

 

A very Bradford City signing. He has 1 senior game in his career, only played kids football.

Reading up a few Wrexham fans are blaming his back surgery in the summer. No pre season and saying he could be feeling affects from his lung injury.

Also suggesting the team around him are struggling. Their top scorer this season has only 6 goals and creativity isnt there from the team.

 

Still 4 points clear in 3rd position though, not too bad considering ?

 

They are still getting results but maybe their strikers have found their limit? Mullin and Palmer are still the most used but aren't firing like they did in NL. Jack Marriott was doing ok then got injured. Parky isn't rotating too much it seems.

 

I agree to a point but there are a number of teams who have shown that if you get the right base of team and get them playing the right formations and tactics then massive investment isn't needed to progress through the league above. Recent examples are Luton and Ipswich. Even Stevenage did OK for their first season back in league one.

That contrasts with Mansfield and Crawley who did what you're describing and invested when they got to league one and they haven't had the same success because changing so many players has hindered them.

So, my view would be the "worry about league one when we get there" is a bit short-sighted. It's rarely possible to recruit an entire league one club in league two (although Wrexham tried) but to continue momentum it doesn't help if over half the starting eleven needs changing.

 

Yes recruit for the future but it’s a critical balance. L1 wages still have to be paid on the premis we are buying players for the upper division, yet we fail to get promoted then those deals have to be honoured, lumbering the club with L1 wages playing in L2. In that sense he’s right, especially as we have an owner that espouses sustainability. I agree however our next two or three signings ought to be with the future of L1 in mind. I doubt that can be done this time though?
