Morecambe FC Funding

Not sure that is factually true. On 15 January 2025, so this transfer window, they signed our old boy Callum Cooke. Morecambe finalised Cooke's transfer just before the embargo was applied. There's something awry here since the club's Board of Directors has issued a statement saying it has failed to provide 'proof of source and sufficiency of funding' which led to the so-called embargo. I say it's awry because proof of funding etc is normally only required by the EFL in the event of new owners or very occasionally prior to the start of the season for clubs who are in financial trouble. It's all slightly mysterious especially when the Bond Group which owns the club has already said that it is providing the funding.

Edit - I now believe there is some kind of internal squabble going on between the owners and the Directors and possibly another party who is interested in buying the club but has yet to show the colour of his money. The 'embargo' on recruiting new players appears to be a self-imposed one rather than from the EFL.

 

Yep spotted that and I will put something on the match thread, referencing the fact. Yesterday they apparently didn’t have the £500 fee to pay for an appeal!
