I guess someones demeanour could help them somewhat, what Abbott being a really amiable fella. Shouldn't but their owners don't really know football.

 

I've met him twice and both times he was an arrogant arsehole. Perhaps I just met him on a couple of bad days though.

Either way, I'm still not sure how he's involved in professional football, he's got an horrendous record in every role after he finished playing.

 

Abbott is a well respected in coaching/player development within the game. How did he even get into the recruitment and the Dof side of things.
He should have stuck with what he was good at.

 

Who says he's well respected? He's been a failure in pretty much every position he's had on the coaching side and while he was here he was not only a complete disaster but even worse, completely oblivious to it.

 

He’s that good at spotting talent after playing Nahki Wells THREE times then released him as a free agent….You mean that Abbott?

Who are all these players he’s spotted and developed , honestly I’m struggling..

 

I can only go on the words of ex players and coaches, I'm not talking about his time as caretaker manager and manager. A lot of the praise for his coaching I think was from his time in the coaching staff at L***s.

I can only tell you my impression after meeting him on both occasions. I found him to be extremely arrogant and not very personable. Like I also said though, perhaps he was just having a bad day both times.

 

You did, and it's true people can make a bad first impression, also a wrong impression through things they say and even post on here.

Really though 75, who has he developed? After his playing days were over, it seems to be rinse, repeat sackings, however he has fallen on his feet up there . Honestly he must have a magic spell over them ? He even gets little mention on their forum yet she’s been solely responsible for most of the recruiting other than the last few weeks which seemingly have been selected by a data analyst, sat on a PC. You can’t tell me he’s scouted and repeatedly watched 10 players who haven’t hardly been making appearances, so it must have been Abbott who is head of recruitment? Weird set up?

 

Certainly something is wrong up there. After beating us in the playoffs they should have built on that, especially with the cash they have had available since then.

 

I’ve met Greg Abbott a couple of times over the years - once in the supermarket, and another time in the pub. Perfect gentleman on both occasions.

 

I didn't say you were, he may have come over as arrogant to you on those occasions. I was just pointing out that first impressions can be misleading.

 

That's good to hear WB. I'd like nothing more than for Greg to be a great bloke because he was such a good servant to the club both on the pitch and in it's darkest hour.

 

I played against him when he was at Guisley. Both of us were playing centre mid. He was a total gent and respectful even though he was tearing me a new one and showed me how good an ex pro really is.

In the early 90s I played for a Social Services XI in the Bradford Council interdepartmental cup. We had some pretty good players, some of whom had been in the juniors of local pro clubs in their youth. When we played against Recreation they had a retired Terry Dolan (who was working part time at a Sports Centre I think) in centre midfield. I swear he never left the centre circle all game, but he totally played us off the park. The gulf in class was cavernous.
