Contract Expiry - June 2025

Players out of contract this summer, can talk with other clubs well before June , so looking at it then might be a tad late

Pretty much agree with this. I think S Walker would be fine to keep on the proviso he isn't guaranteed #1 and has adequate competition (not just backup).

 

I think J Walker will be gone this window and hopefully Oliver.
I’d agree with all the others though, hopefully S Walker remembers he’s a contract to play for and his form steps up again

 

Also if staying fit we could have an understanding and decent partnership for a number of years with Kelly and Richards

 

Didn't Sparks at one point say everyone in the squad has a 1 year option on their contracts? Might be totally wrong but something just ticked in the back of my mind reading this topic.

Cheltenham have confirmed they are bringing in 2 loans this week and need to make 1 loanee a perm signing at the minute to play all on a matchday, I wouldn't be shocked if Stubbs went on a perm this window. JW too, he doesn't seem long for the City world. SW and Johnson, if we are in L2 I'd probably offer another year, if we went up we need to improve. But Walker needs to have a contest next season in whichever division.

Smallwood I think leaves regardless of what we do this season. He'll be 35 next season and if he's still playing, I cant see him keeping pace in L1. By the same mark, if we don't go up do we need to run it back again with Smallwood for a 4th time? How many times do we try make it work with a DM and Captain who is divisive in his mid 30s? I think he is gone for sure in the summer as a best thing for all parties. Captains don't get rotated out in circumstances, so if he's here he'll be starting when fit and that next step at this stage in his career might be too much.

 

I would release Smallwood if we go up. He’ll get ripped to shreds in league one. He’s getting slower by the hour. He’ll probably be fine in league two for another season but we need a dynamic midfield to compete.

From the T&A interview he did last January (https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/24065130.bantams-chief-executive-ryan-sparks-discusses-recruitment/) , so they should all have year extensions apart from J. Walker, Stubbs and Smallwood as they are all in their year extension. I'd imagine Callum Johnson has either got an option in our favour or an appearance based one like Smallwood and Stubbs had.

I can't remember when David Sharpe did an interview on Radio Leeds but when he did he suggested that he wanted to get contracts sorted early so I'd imagine we'll start sitting down with players we want to keep once the window has shut.

It might also be worth pointing out who is contracted until June 2026. Some frightening names on there.

 

I always remember Graeme Tomlinson, looked a really good prospect , something like 6 league goals in 17 starts at the back end of one season in the 90's. Youth team player.
When we came to offer a full time contract, he had been poached by Man utd. They were found guilty and we got £100,000 compo i believe.
Never made it after breaking his legs playing for their reserves i believe.
I always though he was badly advised by his agent . A full season with us and continued scoring and he would have got his big money move.

Not sure on Kelly but am pretty certain we have an option on Richards for another year.

 

Didn't Utd pay £100k with add ons as well

 

Oduor, Wilson, Smith and Vadaine will all have gone before next season
Waker j and Stubbs as well.
