Quite apart from his goalscoring AC does a heck of a job defending set pieces. Maybe that's what went wrong yesterday

    oh shut it!!

Good win yesterday against another poor side. It’s a shocking league and we sit 8th.

Until we are at least in the top 3, stop with you happy nonsense and see it for how it really is.

Thats the thing with Cìty fans just get carried away to easily a great display yesterday but was it really hard on the back of the shite we have viewed all season :(

I think we should be cautious because the side that turned up yesterday can easily revert back to the shite we viewed at Notts C.
I just hope that the powers that be think that we have enough to get us over the line

If you read my original post again you will see that I did question whether we were that good or they were just that poor. Anyway I am not getting as excited as you are. Taking each game as it comes.

IF we string a few decent performances and results together then, just then, we might believe that we are onto something on the pitch. Maybe losing Cookie monster is a blessing in disguise as the front three were as mobile as I have seen for a very long time.

Off the pitch remains the same as far as I am concerned.

If we didn’t get carried away by 10 points out of 12 in nine days then we never will. Not everyone lives in doom and gloom land Andy, been there , dealt with it and seen what it does to people far too often. Some will enjoy yesterday, like me , who thought our midfield performance , despite Grimsby’s own failings’ were probably the best , in isolation, for many a season. I can’t think of one remotely close to that for years in all honesty….Can you?

To be fair, Cook came off after 6 minutes at Barrow, with the score 0-0. Since then we have scored 5 goals. So we can score freely without Cook on the field, which is something we have struggled with previously.

The problem is we don’t when he’s on the pitch. The instruction must be to get it to Cook no matter what. I enjoyed the play yesterday because of the speed we moved the ball. For whatever reason we just don’t do it with him and that’s not Cookies fault. Given the option I know which type of game I’d prefer to watch.

It’s depravation of good football, so even a small amount seems to send us into a gushing response

Indeed it could 10 points out 12 is an excellent return
However 2 defeats in the next 2 games would be 10 out of 18 and that's mediocrity
Regardless of performances on the pitch the main problems still exist

Even disregarding the points total we've accumulated recently I've seen improvement not as we saw for almost the full 90 minutes yesterday but even after getting the spanking at Notts County we very much were the team creating before that nightmare 5 minutes, Port Vale, Chesterfield, Barrow away we were hardly over whelmed.
I'd be very surprised if anyone who watched the game yesterday believe that's as good as its going to get, yesterday improvement ran through out the team everyone a 6 + for me even Smallwood playing far more positive balls than the usual pass ways side ways or backwards.
Why has every good performance have to be questioned, O/K Grimsby at times looked very ordinary but let's not forget the game we played completely nullified the way Artell wanted them to play, even one of their fans on here commented about our high press not allowing them to play out from the back, how many times did we force them to misplace their passes, let's enjoy the moment a week with no game possibly good new with regards Cook and possibly more quality like Lapslie coming in.

Or possibly certain posters being critical of what they've seen this season can't accept what everyone saw yesterday a marked improvement and hopefully something for the football management team to build on.

To be fair there was a header from Kav second half that Cooky would have buried.

Our next game at Carlisle will be a challenge to see if it was a one off and getting rid of the monkey on our backs (losing to teams who are having a disastrous season), we should be going up there in a very positive mood with a massive away following in support of the lads.
We've discussed the above many times Steve and disagreed ;) many times, even though as yourself I'd prefer another owner, more results like yesterday the hierarchy become less significant as ultimately its the performances on the pitch that dictate attendances and fans response with regards attending or not.
I'd suggest if we were to get promoted this season our season ticket sales would increase because our standing in the football pyramid would have improved, hopefully the fact that we were playing football in a higher league might make us a more saleable asset ?.

It's by no means a criticsm of Kavanagh but he really should have scored that header, having said that his shot first half deserved a goal, great save from Wright, overall a massive improvement on the season in general, and with Grimsby bringing a very good away following a decent atmosphere, had to smile the Grimsby fans chanting "football in a library" only for it to kick them up the arse, great day all-round mate.

Absolutely right. Although he never looked like scoring, apart from a good shot which brought a good save, Kavanagh's running caused all sorts of problems. He frequently came out wide leaving the centre backs with no one to mark and thereby creating uncertainty for them and space for our midfield. I've always said that Cook is a complete one off, a phenomenal goal scorer at this level but really not that good a footballer. There's no way we can play like we did yesterday with him in the team and we'll have to make a big decision when he's fit again. The modern game, even at our level, is all about movement and pace. That's what the successful teams have and sadly that's something Andy doesn't offer. I think it's very significant that his absence enabled players that some, including me, had written off to really shine when they'd looked lost when he was in the team. Quite a dilemma for our manager.

I thought the Grimsby fans had a point, it was dead as a dodo for the first half hour as the game upto that point was a snooze fest. The goal came at the right time, the game desperately needed.it.

It takes two to tango. There were apparently over 2000 of them at VP. Perhaps they could have contributed a bit more? Found their chants about Northerners a bit ironic, given that Cleethorpes is ‘latitudinally’ about as north as Barnsley!
