Their 2 top scorers with 15 league goals combined so far this season were out injured today (Will Grigg and James Berry). That's just 2 standouts. Paddy Madden is another who we all know causes us problems, was also out injured.

We were very fortunate to play a Chesterfield B team today.

    £££££££££££.’s

Chesterfields squad must cost a bloody fortune in wages.
A number of loans from Prem or CC nearly squads . Keeper from Newcastle , the little tricky winger via Tottenham and Blackburn.

Maybe, but that is still the best team we have seen at VP this season. BTW Paul Cook will be milking the injury situation to its maximum. What odds do you give they are the big spenders in the January sale?

Can't you only spend a certain % of your turnover on player wages?

Not if it’s “gifted” as a “ loan” to the club I believe . That’s how Wrexham Stockport and £30-40m in debt Colchester get round it I understand .

I’m sure someone can tell us Adrian .

The meltdown on their forum is hilarious.
    Ref was a homer apparently!!!
Feck off, 3 yellow cards in the first half to us stifles any physical intention.
They had one booked whole game despite at least 3 clear bookable offences.
Fans in tune with their whiny little Scouse gaffer it seems.

You can only play what is in front of you but 1st half Chesterfield made us look like a non league team.

Credit us for battling back but boy we have work to do.

6 points out of 6 though is a start. 2 big games coming up.

It sums up a lot of football fans attitudes towards referees that every like to claim the referee is against them, the reality is the reason they didn't win was their player somehow failed to hit the target from about 8 yards then had a bit of luck against them with another couple of chances but they also defended badly for both of our goals. For the first their player should take out Pattison and they shouldn't be leaving us 4 on 2 then a mistake in defence for our 2nd.
It's easier to focus on the referee than their own player mistakes or blame referees when you lose but the reverse never happens like nobody was thanking the referee for us winning against Port Vale from an offside goal.

Fans like to moan at referees but the reality is most fans think every decision should go their way and a lot don't know the basic laws as shown today by the amount of people complaining about Chesterfield having a free kick for offside in our half which is correct as Cook touched the ball in our half.

Just like us having Baldwin, Kelly, Patto and Sarcevic back recently.
It's definitely made us more resolute and quicker getting the ball forward.

The ref gave them everything until that one decision right at the end. He might as well have been wearing a Chesterfield shirt.

For what it's worth I thought the ref was pretty good today. Every decision he made close to me in the main stand was spot on. It might not have looked like that from other parts of the ground but when you're close enough to see exactly what's happened you appreciate it when it's the correct decision.

Ref was awful . Any contact was a foul.
They have no idea . Like robots every week .
No understanding of keeping a flow to a game.
Like us a terrible watch most of this season.
Loving the 3 points but we were so bad against a side with most of its team missing.
Ended with 6 at the back against a side with no striker .

I bet those in MR stand have a completely different view.

Both sets of fans were deriding the ref/assistants. Usually a good yardstick of their performance.

    This.

It's a bit rich for either City fans or Chesterfield fans to say he gave them everything, he didn't, he was just very, very poor.

The early yellows made no sense and then he had to rein that in for the second half which makes no sense and confuses everyone, players included. The harder, stronger challenges went in during that second half, so I can see why someone only partially paying attention might think there's a bias - nope, just very poor game management from the referee.

At one point I thought he was trying to set a Guinness World Record for most whistles in a five minute period, very tedious watching him make a reasonably entertaining game seem like a nightmare to referee. He made it hard for himself, and bottled every penalty and handball appeal while at times enforcing a no contact policy - but only 'at times' since there was so little consistency.

    Awful.
