Yet another, very, very average player to add to the ranks of very, very average players already here.

Decent technical player but absolutely isn't a goalscorer. Probably averages 7 or 8 a season for the last 10.

Probably coming in to replace Walker and will probably make even less of an impact. #itsabantamsthing.

Looked at his stats. Since joining Bristol Rovers in July 2017, he has made 267 appearances and scored 37 goals. So an average of 1in 7.2 games, so about 6.3 goals a season. May as well stick with Tyler Smith.

Exactly. Also suggests (if true) that we are still not looking much further afield than the last clubs of the members of our esteemed recruitment department.

That's the most worrying aspect. Firstly Johnson and now Nichols. It doesn't exactly scream a wide network of contacts does it!

Never got this argument. History has shown that players can go to a new environment and shine. Happens almost every season across the leagues but also, it’s unrealistic to expect the club to bring in a goalscorer like Cook. These players are the most wanted in football as a whole, we are lucky to have one already. What we need is someone who compliments Cook and can add goals on a somewhat consistent basis

I look at it from a different point of view. We have a complete outsider coming into the club and seeing exactly what’s missing and who (in their opinion) can improve the team. Of the ones brought in this summer, Johnson has been a failure, Sanderson started brightly and lost his way, but the whole squads’ form had dipped. Huntingdon and Evans look astute signings (for one season only) and who knows what Adams would’ve done for us. As a first window for Sharpe, I think he’s got more right than wrong and as we enter another window we should be cautiously optimistic that he’ll improve us again. I think the biggest stumbling block is offloading the deadwood which we all knew weren’t of the required quality. I suppose it’s like anything in life, if you need an extension building you’ll go for who you’ve used before or know will turn up day in day out. Who knows, it might be that Gent gets moved on because his record is the one that should come under scrutiny.

I've mentioned accountability on here about a million times. Sharpe will be judged by his record. So far, we are 10th, and honestly, one win against an awful team hasn't suddenly made me think the summer was acceptable. Huntington and Evans have looked okay so far, but we have seen how quickly things can change. And when two free agents close to retirement are considered the best signings, then so far, his tenure is a failure for me.

He had a good-ish return for Crawley but other than that he's been a lower league journeyman. But yeah, not exactly testing the scouts are we?

More worrying for me is we'd be bringing in a completely unfit (match sharpness wise) player and expect him to feature from the off. He's only played 352 minutes all season, just 82 minutes for Mansfield in the league. He hasn't played for them since the Pizza/car/whatever cup at the end of October against Newcastle U21s. At 31 as well, i hope we keep him to a short term deal.

Admittedly Nicholls goalscoring record isn't the best, however, whenever I've seen him he has looked a decent player.

We aren't going to get a 20 goal a season striker in the Janusry sales

    Mansfield reject.
    1 in 6 striker.
Last did something 5 years ago.
4 league goals in 2.5 years.
    Past it.

The most Bradford City signings of Bradford City signings.

And it would be further proof our owner, CEO and waste of money recruitment guy don't have a clue what they are doing.

At 31 years old, im going to wager he won't shine elsewhere. I would neatly file this signing in the vault with Tom Elliot, Vadaine Oliver and Theo Robinson.

I quoted figures based over 7 seasons. That isn’t a narrow view, with me just cherry picking statistics to support my in initial assessment. We have had members, quoting Oliver’s scoring rate at Gillingham prior to him joining City. Oliver has totally bombed at City. Tom Nichols had a decent spell at Exeter, basically a 1 in 3 scorer then, but he left in 2016 and has not returned to that level. A long period of time has elapsed. His history seems to show he has struggled to replicate his early career form, I think seven seasons is long enough.

Doesn't that say more about the squad prior to his arrival? Byrne, Baldwin, Benn, Shepherd, Diabete (to a degree) have been decent. As I said, a fresh pair of eyes seeing what's needed and whether we like it or not, we can't jettison the 10 players we'd like to. It won't happen quick enough for you or me, but that's just how it's going to be unfortunately.

Is Diabete injured or just not getting into the team? Send him back to his club.

The trouble is that if we ‘send them back’ and we have further injury/suspension/health absences, then the squad doesn’t have enough depth. Same goes for Olly Sanderson. Football is a squad game over 46 matches, gone are the days when 14 players would be sufficient.

Interesting you make that last comment about Gent. Your comments above were exactly the same as some that I was reading 12 months ago about him.

Perhaps (or more than likely) in another 12 months the players Sharpe brought in will be the new Deadwood.
