Just noticed only 1 U23 team in both North and South leagues has made it to knockout stage. Seems a waste of time them taking part.

Who do we want in next round. Personally I’d like Town either home or away but I suspect we’ll get Morecambe.

It's impossible to get Town away; and we can only get them at home if we beat Rotherham.

Is that because the top team from each group is at home? I didn’t know that sorry

If we want to progress I think we have to finish top as I can’t see us beating any of the teams who have topped the group away from home, including Morecambe

Apparently Cowley calls it the enthusiasm cup.

I think he actually likes the cup, but that tells its own story. Most clubs don't give a stuff.

Listening to the Hard Truth podcast today and learning the potential cost implications to clubs via the National Insurance increase (I live outside of the UK nowadays so not educated how accurate DM explanation is), I’d say any form of cup run and extra funds is beneficial.

I’ve always said, I quite like this competition and opportunity to watch more games of ours. Therefore whatever gives us the best possibility of progression is most favourable.

Unless you reach the final there is very little financial gain. I think EFL clubs actually use the early rounds to keep squad players involved and match fit.
For clubs to ‘give a stuff’ would need a bigger incentive of winning it. Not sure what that could be but maybe an extra chance of promotion by awarding an extra play off place or a points bonus which might be the difference of going up in autos, getting in playoffs or escaping relegation.

I've watched a few highlights from last night's game notably Blackpool and Wrexham fans travelled in numbers to Harrogate and Port vale respectively.
It's very much a marmite competition but probably the best and only chance of Silverware for most entrants.

It's financially better than the Carabao Cup, with the same winner and runner up payments.

The prize money in this competition made us around £140,000 last season so there is much financial gain. £10,000 for each group win and far more for each knockout win. I believe it was £20,000 for beating Liverpool u21, £40,000 for beating Derby and £50,000 for beating Doncaster. Plus half the gate money which was a reasonable figure at Derby and at home to Doncaster and Wycombe.
