His booking on the 6th minute, apparently for dissent was his fifth of the season. He will now face a one match (league game) ban. That puts even more pressure on our beleaguered defence. Absolutely foolish to get the card for dissent, never mind that stage of the game. In any other occupation, using inappropriate language is unacceptable, football should follow the norms. Wonder if he will get a club fine? Surely managers/coaches can help players to ‘button it’?
This leaves the defence in a mess. Kelly will not be ready to return until late November or early December. Baldwin was a couple of weeks away from a return at the beginning of October???? Not sure we will ever see Johnson in a City shirt (who you say!!).

The ref booked you if you moved yesterday-what a joke. I wonder if they realise the wider consequence of booking players willy nilly as he did yesterday?

If swearing is to be taken out of the game then they must go straight to Rugby standards without hesitation. However it seems not all refs are that bothered otherwise most games wouldn't finish due to lack of players left on the pitch. The powers that be need to decide which it is.

We have so many cbs and none of them are decent at this level. How did we go from players like Davies and McArdle to these lot?

Agree. If I used foul and abusive language I would be disciplined at work. Although I may disagree with people and even management, I know how to control my language. It is also usually linked with a loss of control. In most environments you achieve more if you are calm and measured.

They caught it on the TV replay in the aftermath of Sharps tackle on Smallwood. Sharps challenge was knee high on the replay, Shepherd ran over to the ref shouting but he also made the card hand gesture it looked like too, which they can't do anymore either without getting a card.

But the ref was a bit card happy yesterday, think I read that he had done 10 EFL games so far this season and given out 69 cards before yesterday.

Yep "dissent" is a very generic reasoning.

Fairly certain the card was for asking a booking. He booked a Donny player a few minutes later for the same thing.

Not the best decision disciplinary wise but wasnt dissent in mouthing off at the referee wise

The one positive about him getting it yesterday is that it buys us a bit of extra time to decide what to do as it applies to the league so he's free to play next week.
With the amount of needless bookings we've been picking up this season it was only a matter of time before we had a suspension.
I've got no sympathy anymore for players who get a yellow card for dissent or asking for a card, they've been given plenty of warning but some just don't seem to learn.
    J. Walker, Byrne and Diabate are all 1 yellow card away from a ban with 5 league games left until the cut off so the likelihood is we'll lose another at least especially with how open we are on the counter attack putting pressure on the defenders.
Shepherd was the one out of the 3 that we could least afford to lose as he's probably been the most consistent and he's the one only left footed natural CB we've got fit.

Shame the ban can’t be served in the cup game. Any idea why it is league only? I’m sure the cup used to count a few years ago

Byrne has started "fantastically" I was reading on here as recently as midweek and Baldwin gets better with every game he misses.

Can't wait for the promotion party at Christmas.

I noticed the ref gave a free kick to both teams yesterday for players falling over and then handling the ball expecting a freekick. Refreshing to see as it stops players throwing themselves to the floor.

If Zidanes level is the Conference then yeah, that'll work.

I mean, who cares about defending if you can hit an 80 yard switch ball right into touch.

It got changed 5ish years ago so yellow cards are for the competition you get them in rather than count them for all competitions. I think there were a couple of reasons it was changed:
    1) It was unfair on teams who did better in cup competitions as they would play more games as the cut off was by date rather than number of games played, also EFL and non-league would play more games than Premier League so some lower league players would miss a big FA Cup game as they'd picked up a few yellows cards in the league.
    2) Some players took advantage of it and would deliberately get a yellow card before a cup game so they would miss that rather than a league match. I can remember McMahon got a deliberate yellow card late on in a league match to miss an FA Cup tie rather than a league match.

He’s also scored two goals and even you must admit that he’s better than you predicted. However you made your mind up about him even though you’d never seen him play and I suspect he could play like Zidane and you’d still say he’s crap. You’re just like a mate of mine who used to hate Gary Watson in the 1970s. He could have a superb game ,score two goals and he’d say we played well apart from Watson. However it’s your choice to hate Byrne regardless. For the record I think Shepherd has exceeded expectations after I criticised him but he does rely on Byrne to organise him.

I was critical of the signing of Byrne with him being a bit part player at Stockport but to be fair he's played alright since coming back from injury.

Perhaps Byrne could concentrate on organising himself. Maybe then he'd exceed expectations like Shepherd has for you.

Although, given you already think he's been largely excellent then I'm assuming it's an extremely low bar.

Let me ask you this then. Do you think he played well yesterday?

The 'highlights' of his performance for me were that he completely lost Sharp for the second goal and attempted to play Doncaster clean through twice in 3 minutes during the first half that luckily we escaped from.

Let me ask you this, did you think Diabate had a good game as he was lost? Did you think Byrne played well against Newport, Cheltenham, Gillingham as he was highly praised by the media? I guess you thought he was crap in those games as you are trying all the time to justify your summer attack on him. He’s a fairly decent league 2 centre back, not as good as Platt but better than the slow Stubbs. Incidentally look at the goal on u tube Crawley scored to equalise in the game last January when Platt set up their striker with an appalling error which had it been Byrne you’d have gone barmy. Strangely I want City players to play well I suspect you don’t when it comes to certain players which is why I hark back to the Garry Watson hater in the 70s, he’s just like you. Anyway bored of this so enjoy your season.

So to highlight how well our centre half is playing you've named 3 matches, each of which we failed to keep a clean sheet and two of them where we gave up multiple chances?
