I'm not sure why he'd be labelled as "very poor". I accept the defensive numbers aren't purely down to any individuals but 3 goals conceded in Benns 4 league starts is acceptable I'd say.

Hopefully we can tighten up further though and I've no problem with Halliday at wing back either, we've two very decent options at the minute.

That's just my opinion without even looking at stats. I'm using my eyes and watching attackers run at him and Benn getting nowhere near them, that's all. I like him and as I've said above, want him to start the games where we'd be in the ascendancy. But games where we might need to be more solid, mostly away games, then id probably play Halliday.

No league two player is perfect and i'm happy we have players that give us different options.

At the moment it would be Benn for me. Halliday has been nowhere near as solid defensively of late and has been left wanting, although he did look better on Saturday.

 

That's fair enough although I'm not sure I agree re Benn as I think he's been fine defensively but I'm also not sure you can just rotate them. You could end up potentially playing them both out of form by not giving them a chance to get some rhythm.

For me I think we simply play the one in form and whoever has the shirt then knows the level of performance they'll need to keep it.

 

First time we've played these since 2021. Cook got a brace last time (his first 2 goals in a city shirt, which was (mostly) blue). Hopefully same again tonight.

Certainly highlights the lack of depth in the squad when you consider that we've also brought in 2 free agents that are the other two players making up the bench.

From Simon Parker's blog below, it makes sense to not call an U19 up for the sake of it and make them travel all of the way to Cheltenham on a Tuesday night not getting back until the early hours of Wednesday then having to play 12pm on Friday.

You are forgetting all the injuries down to bare 18 are we not, now Wright has got the lurgi with Benn the latest casualty? What else do you suggest we do ? This has nothing to do with Sharp, nor GA, nor XXX or the colour of the moon.

I would suggest cover on the bench for the first team trumps an under 18 match. Furthermore the under 18 match isn't until Friday, if it was tomorrow I could understand.

Maybe Sam Walker and Colin Doyle have been suffering with this illness and we are being ultra cautious in case either become ill during the match?

 

Here's a question for the statisticians - as a team ever fielded 3 different keepers in the same match, and by that I mean actually playing?
