I like your sentiment, but it will never happen. Turkeys do not vote for Christmas and the FA are as strong as a fortnight ( two week).

Totally agree in spades but owners won’t let it happen!

A salary cap in the EFL will never work. Football is a business, not a sport anymore and it always will be going forward. The financial beast above has grown too much to have any control again, even at our level. Far too many make far too many millions off the field for it to change. But the PL would never do it for the fear that the big Spanish clubs, German clubs or Saudi clubs don't have a cap and taking players on high money is a bigger threat.

Even with a salary cap, there's still things they cant limit. If you have a limit on squad salaries and transfers, you cant limit things like loan fees and signing bonuses. So if say us and Carlisle for example offered someone the same wage to fit a cap, they could offer multiple times the signing and relocation fees that we could so we are blown out the water. Like loaning from teams in L1 to L2, if teams at that level have a player on their squad, they wont want to carry forward his contract as part of their cap, but the L2 team wont pay full whack on his deal either, so loans could be a minefield to negotiate and they'd need to make it fairer to do those deals. Like loaning from the PL, a U21 there could be on £5k a week but clubs will only want to pay a fraction of that. Then you might end up in another scenario where teams who can pay a hefty loan fee are loaning the better players and everyone else without much cash to blow are left with the scraps.

That's how they get around caps in the US sports which is the only other financial giant I can think of that have a cap. When a player is negotiating between clubs, the salary is always pretty low to not worry the cap too much, but signing bonuses are multi millions because you cant regulate that stuff. So like if Miami Dolphins announce they've signed a guy for $15m on a one year deal, the deal will be like $10m in bonuses and $5m in guaranteed money (cap money).

I totally agree. Looks like the PL are going to allow this unfairness to continue. They won’t be satisfied until they have destroyed it.

As Man City proved. Spend “ pennies” ( Compared to players) on an army of world renowned Barristers , proves anyone can find a financial loophole. The Fair Play b/s is what it is, b/s !

Just seen Adam Reach is still a free agent since leaving West Brom. There's the problematic left side sorted out in one swoop although I'm guessing his wages are well above our standard rate.

Yeah he's currently training with Swansea, apparently.

I was prepared to expect he'd be older than 31!

If he can't get a Championship side, surely someone like Huddersfield would want him?

Yeah at 31 he's not at our level of scraping the yellow sticker bargain bucket, still has a decent contract left in him.

He was training with Rotherham a few weeks back. Seems to be a LWB these days but could still do a job for a low end champ or L1 club these days for sure.

    Don't ask, don't get.

The piece in the Yorkshire Post yesterday said Adam is still waiting for a club to pick up the phone to him.

Clubs maybe shying away because of his injury woes last couple of years

Possibly. I think he's looking for a last contract that would pay high end league one wages. He'll be coming off championship wages and it's a big drop to league two levels.

Haven’t we seen this before? Bringing back a player that once had a few good games for us on loan? Then don’t live up to expectations.

True he did have a few good games for us on loan, then Sheffield Wednesday paid £5 million for him, don't know how many games he played for them.

He played over 200 games for them and started really well, I think he even attracted some Premier League interest a one point. Near the end he started to pick up a few injuries which then carried onto his time at West Brom.
