To be fair. It's over a year since we lost a game when we have scored first and apart from one draw, we've won the rest in that period when scoring first.

You haven’t heard then? We have to wait for 3 seasons before promotion? I would love to hear why he thinks that and what else we need that we can’t afford!

Be interesting to see the other side of that.
How often do we win after going behind?

Im sure the stattos on here will know.

Sharpe never actually said that Mrs O. His words were well and truly twisted.

He actually said promotion is the aim, if not this season, then next. He also hinted that they know already who they will be looking to offload in the summer.

Sharpe did say when he was appointed that it may take 3 or 4 windows

Yeh he needs to be taken to task for that....so with your expertise and Rupps promised promotion winning budget why are you saying 3 years?

    A very welcome 3 points.
Far from convincing but think we just about deserved it.
Definitely need to get Baldwin back soon as defence still shaky.
Pointon really positive from the bench.
Walker and Benn my picks for player of the match. Been really impressed with Benn so far, both offensive and defensively he’s looked very assured. Great to have creativity from both sides with him and Wright. Some room for improvement on quality of final ball but most important is we get into the positions.

Evans looked busy when he came on, albeit it was short. Awareness and communication to those around him. Hopefully a good reinforcement to the squad.

Promotion is the aim every season....or it should be. Soundbites...

I’m sure Cookie would love to be on some of the balls Newport sent in. If we can improve on our delivery (Wright in particular) then we’ll certainly see more goals scored.

In Jan our top priority needs to be a proper LWB.

Another striker. Cook gets injured and we are screwed because the other 4 are all shite.

Thought we saw an improved performance from Wright today with glimpses of that pace down the wing.

Pointon was tremendous during his cameo. I'm wondering if he's better suited to be an impact sub at this stage in his development, with starts reserved for cup games.

Kav the only disappointment for me, didn't really offer much. Smith looked a lot brighter and threatening, i'd give him a go up top with Cook on Saturday.

Shaky for the first 15/20 of the second half where Newport peppered us but overall I felt we deserved the win tonight.

    Well done lads.

Sad to see the stadium so flat and dull. We’re usually at least halfway through the season before we get to that point!
Disappointing that Newports only genuine threat managed to score. Two poor teams on display tonight.
We’re good enough with everyone back fit because the league is so poor. A much needed win nonetheless

What a player Jake Benn is. although it's not without irony, and a reflection on our recruitment, that with 10 new signings the only player we have improved on is our player of the year who we arguably didn't need to improve on

They had 3 or 4 chances to score to be fair

Well worth attending tonight, reverting back to a 5-3-2 made a massive difference, Newport just had no answers at all to the width supplied.

Defensively still shaky, Newport could have scored several times, but from an attacking perspective we had the run of VP most of the night and everyone played pretty well. Goals good, and 3 of them.

Atmosphere wasn't that flat, either, and it didn't feel that empty from where I am - but certainly not as full as an optimistic Saturday at the start of the season.

EDIT: also, extremely mild night, not chilly at all.

Not very often. So far this season we are 0-1-2 when trailing at the half, and 0-1-3 when trailing at any point in a match. We have tended not to be good at rescuing points from losing positions, though I would say that in some seasons we have been adequate at that. My 10-match summaries will have the details for earlier seasons; I'll extract the numbers from those later. I don't suppose many teams will actually be good at this.

But this ended up a nice win. Benn caught the eye again, and we are capable of some nice passages of play. We are too inconsistent though, within a match, and so have some worrying moments.

They’ve probably just scored match winning goals from positions on the pitch that aren’t scoring hotspots, and thus arent sustainable to base wins on - a bit like the freakishly good goals England scored at the Euros just gone!

that said, tonight they didnt half waste some good chances. We could have been 3-1 down before Walker scored!
