That’s when players would run through brick walls for the club. Different breed now, they simply don’t give a feck. Easier for them to be injured during tough times then just move on at the end of their contract to try somewhere else.

The problem though has been too many injuries in the same position namely the defence which has meant switching to a back four and we aren’t comfortable in this formation, both Diabate and Shepherd hardly won a header Morecambe. Similarly with us now playing 4-4-2 our forwards are starved of service as we have no wingers.

Agree, there’s absolutely no need to be offering out any contracts further than January at this stage to aging, injury prone players nobody wanted in the summer.

We could have continued with a back 3 by either sticking Halliday at RCB or Richards at LCB. Not sure it would have made much difference to the results though, given the bigger problem yet again is at the other end of the pitch.

We sort of did that last season putting Ridehalgh in a back three and it didn’t work. I can’t see Halliday or Richards in a back three being a success.

As I said, it would have been unlikely to make much of a difference, given the bigger problems are at the other end of the pitch.

Opposition can't score with the ball in their own penalty area
We don't have players to either put it or keep it there

I think it is consistency thing, you mentioned diabate and shepherd hardly winning a header against Morecambe, yet against Wimbledon they were largely dominant.

The problems in the main lie elsewhere, I have yet to watch a game where we have dominated the midfield and got control of that, giving us the foundation to play higher up the pitch and create chances.

I'd love to know the statistics of chances created because we must be fairly low, whole chunks of games are going by where nothing happens in an attacking sense.

Even 3 out of our 5 most recent goals have been via other teams errors where we have disposed their last man and scored from that, rather than an opportunity of our own making

Playing 4-4-2 though due to injuries has also affected our attacking options as we have no natural wide players. Pointon looks lost out wide and Walker is far better as an attacking midfielder. I think when we go back to 3 at the back against Newport our attacking prowess will improve.

Doncaster running Grimsby ragged already. A team our boys lost to twice.

The team has only 5 assists between them so far in the league this season, only 4 clubs have fewer. We don't have a good creative output.

We've had the 9th most shots in the league (106), but our on target rate from our shots is 31%, only 6 teams have a worst rate at hitting the target. The ratio for goals from shots on target is .27, which again there are only 6 teams that are worse at converting shots on target to goals in the league. We're 10th for touches in the opposition box. So we are up there in terms of getting shots away, but just crap at converting.

Thought Wright was a natural wide left man. I agree on the right we have not got this position covered unless Benn can ?

Strange league ours, Fleetwood put 6 past Walsall who had previously won every home game yet were easily held at home by Bromley who we beat easily. Similarly Donny were well beaten by Chesterfield last week. It’s a very open league.

T&A reporting we’re looking at an out of contact midfielder. Also reports Adams misses the season due to injury. I must have missed that. What a terrible signing that was.

Its a very poor league one that any team who can put a good unbeaten run together will do well
Port Vale MKD, Doncaster, Chesterfield, Fleetwood, Gillingham are more than capable of doing it
We struggle in taking a solitary point out of Morecambe and Harrogate just about sums it up
With approaching a quarter of the season gone and the exception of the MKD win courtesy of a freak own goal
Our highlight is a 3-1 win home to 10 man Bromley
Maybe that puts our chances into perspective in a very poor league
