I mean you have to laugh it looks terrible on Sharpe. Due to this I imagine reason Benn came in. Due to Johnson’s profile I imagined they wanted him to also slot if needed in the RCB position possibly not needing Diabate if he was fit.

2 players recruited for one mistake everyone saw comming.

Sharpe said judge us in May but this is a massive *@?$ up on him.

Yet you're still wanting that quality centre half bringing in to replace him that you've been apparently been asking for all summer?

More flip flopping than Gandhi's sandals.

No I don't, I said that at the beginning of the summer. I am happy with our options now.

Which one was the "quality centre half"? I must have missed the announcement.

We shall see as the season progresses. Like I said though, I'm happy with our options at the back.

My only concern as the window closed was that GA doesn't seem to think bringing in another keeper to challenge Sam Walker was necessary.

If we get promotion with Byrne and Baldwin as mainstays then I'll hold my hands up. If Diabate stays here all season though I think he's probably a starter from what we've seen so far so that means at least one of them will be missing out as none of the three will play left side.

The other issue for me is probably a different option for Smallwood because if he picked up a long term injury I'm not sure Pattison or Odour are as good a fit for the role as GA suggested.

That sentence and the Johnson signing being a flop made me wonder about next season. Going well so far, let's face it we'd be joint top if the officials had eyes against Salford. We seem to have assembled a good (so far) L2 challenger, I do worry that the guys we brought in wont be anywhere near L1 standard and we are staring down the barrel of a sizeable rebuild if we go up. Byrne, Baldwin, Sarcevic & Johnson wont get L1 football next season. Wright is the only one who may but he struggled last time at that level.

Cart before the horse, I know.

I think we’ve seen that a promoted team carrying momentum into the following season, is a team full of confidence and may only need a few additions. Teams making wholesale changes more often than not struggle to hit the ground running. Getting off to a slow start can often increase your chances of relegation.

Think it depends on your financial situation more than anything. Stockport have brought in 13/14 players for this campaign and are looking good again. Wrexham brought in a fair few but also knew they'd likely be up in Jan and signed guys like Marriott early. Teams like that can rebuild and know it will come good but yeah the other lot rebuild and struggle anyway or try make it work with what they have.

Looking at who is contracted for next season, we have Halliday, Byrne, Kav, Cook, Sarcevic, Oduor, Smith, Baldwin, Pattison, Wright & Pointon. Of those 11 players, there aren't many that most would be comfy with starting L1 matches. We have Richards, Kelly, Smallwood, S Walker, J Walker, Doyle & Oliver out of contract, Richards, Kelly & Oliver will have one year triggers on their deals but I doubt Richards or Oliver get triggered, Kelly might well.

Early days but opinions might change if we are up and around the top 3 all season. As we know a player with confidence can look like a completely different player without. Some might surprise us.

I am more cautious and dont think we are anything being a L2 challenger dont get me wrong we looked good on Saturday but what gone on before it is very much midtable .........i mean for as good we played against Carlisle the same team can also produce a Grimsby type performance aswell................early days lets see where we are come the end of October

I agree Gaz. I'm still of the opinion that this squad looks like an 8th - 14th type squad.

With a fair wind we could reach the play offs but a couple of injuries and we'll be fully encamped in mid table.

Might as well lock or delete this thread.

There's not much to discuss with an injury prone player that's injured yet again. Maybe if he ever plays we can resurrect it. Until then it's a complete waste of time.

Just reading back a bit, it made me laugh to find an article with a title that started "Callum Johnson Delighted to Be Fit..." :joy:

Is he a doctor then or do we pay experts to run the runes with Mystic Meg whereby forecasting future injuries in a tackle at a future date?

We fecked up in recent seasons of course , we failed because we didn’t forecast Osadebe’s broken leg, we failed because we didn’t forecast the two sets of horrendous minutes lost because Walker was targeted twice with late tackles, it’s a long list where the premenition dept failed……innit?
    It’s a contact sport ?
