He was poor on Saturday granted, however I don’t think he’s started the season too badly.

He's on target for 18 assists (of course unlilkley to get that many) but that's not good enough? Who cares if the "one decent cross" is a peach.

You make it seem like he was utterly hopeless, when yes, like all of the defence he as occasionally caught out - but he also made some good clearances / defensive decisions.

I'm OK with him been classed as poor, if everyone else is judged using the same matrix - otherwise algorithms become more believable. It seems that he's getting harshly judged because some fans don't like him in that position and so the narrative tend to be 'more picky' than, say Halliday.

Agree with that, possibly more pressure for Wright to perform because some don't want him playing there.
You'd think this was a club used to quality fullbacks by the way he's being judged.

    Totally agree.
4 assists that lead to goals in 5 league games.
I'm counting the cross against Bromley that led to the red card.
    Maintains possession well.
Still waiting to see him fly past players 1 v 1 but has he ever been that???

He simply wasn't "absolutely awful" It's hilarious that you think 18000 will agree with you. Crossing the ball accurately and setting up a goal is priceless in L2 - but you clearly think that a player should be, what 80% accurate, or otherwise they're rubbish.

Yes, he need to position himself better- but I've never seen a "lack of effort"

He's an attacking wing back. He's going to leave holes at the back. If he gets 2 assists in every 5 matches - then it will be worth it.

    I'm with you.

Look I know fans of his who are nervous of him at LWB but he's now played there 10 times and we've won 8 of them!! Losing just the once. Six of them were against teams either above and going for the play-offs or expected to challenge for the play-offs this season.

The argument is over as to whether he can play there. It's now a matter of how good he can be.

And he can clearly get better.

In fairness Halliday got hassle last season, when he was often hopelessly exposed as often the other players weren't doing their jobs.

As we see from the stick Trent AA gets - been a wing back is a bit of a thankless task.

Come on he was awful...the vast majority on here thought so, so pop that percentage against the crowd and it wouldn't be far off

You say crossing the ball is priceless, he got one out of god knows how many attempts right.

For an "attacking wing back" how many times did he turn back or inside and play the ball back? I'd state it was damn sight more often than going into space behind their defence.

It may not be him, it isn't a natural position and perhaps he is scared to kick on because he knows he is now primarily a defender and that he will need to get back.

I remember him as being blessed with pace in his first spell, but he seems to do every in slow motion now comparitive to that spell.

As for him being too good for league two, he had to drop three leagues to get a game, went to the league above and was back down within six months. That tells you all need to know about that comment

I have been Halliday's biggest critic too! I sit in E block so second half Wright was playing straight in front of me. As I said in my original post I wasn't even commenting on his defence. He had multiple opportunities to hurt Carlisle but didn't. If he gets one on one with the full back and space behind I expect him to take him on. At least push it into the space behind and try go past. Isn't that what an attacking wing back is supposed to do? Also couple of occasions he got in great positions to shoot or cross and ended up doing neither. He tends not to look up. All purely my opinion of course, based on the well known ahar964fullback algorithm :grinning:

I admit it was his worst home game, but he wasn't "awful". And his ability to give an assist cannot be just dismissed. We got this when he played against MK Dons, moans about his defending - no mention of the great work he did for our opener and another when he slice open their defence.

What did you think about him against Bromley?

    P.S.

And I've got news for you. Social media tends to attractive negative comments and opinion - not positive ones. Just take a look at the T&A where you can hardly buy a comment when we've won. LOL!!

So you can't apply a percentage to here and assume it represents the 18K.

For me it wasn't that he was leaving holes, it was that he was allowing his man to run off him and almost jogging back. We saw that Wright was quicker than his man when going forward but the same intensity wasn't shown going the other way.

I like Wright btw so this isn't me being over picky but effort levels are basic and they need to be increased compared to Saturday where he looked incredibly lethargic when running towards his own goal.

The positives are like you say though, yet another assist and he continues to find plenty of room to deliver balls into the box. Hopefully we'll see game by game improvement as he develops and he'll be a huge asset.

Wright's first spell was full of attacking intent down the flanks, regularly beating people for pace, taking players on and scoring a few goals too.

This time around, he seems to have less confidence or has been told not to take the man on. He has received the ball in space many-a-time and in my opinion it feels like he is not allowed to do what he wants to do.

There's definitely more to be unlocked from him - the ability is there, we saw it in his first spell.

I posted at half time , he was pretty shocking . Picked up second half especially when Bobby used him as an outlet. Both were effective as a result.

No issue with Wright whatsoever for me.

I think he is doing far better than fans suggested he would do playing as a wingback.

Like most I was hoping that we would bring in a more specialist left wingback, but maybe there wasn't any good enough available to consider.

I see some have been suggesting that we drop him and bring in Richards. I personally think that would be backward step.

One thing I would like to see and think would benefit Wright would be to bring in Shepherd for Kelly. I just think that would be a more balanced and complimentary pairing down the left side.

Not really sure what Kelly has done wrong to be honest, but he splits opinions

Good honest defender, rarely loses an header, makes good blocks and is rarely out muscled and is decent enough positioning wise.

Maybe the two left sides players don't compliment each enough and that's why people perceive one to be better than the other. I personally think Kelly would be better with a more defensive aware left wing back in front of him.

Yes his distribution isn't great but I'm very much of the defending first and foremost school of thinking. Head it, win it, kick it, just don't piss about with it

I agree with the change eventually but I do think Kelly did well on Saturday, especially with the lack of support and I think he did enough to retain his shirt ....... for now.

I think some people forget we are in League 2. If he was putting it on a sixpence every time he wouldn’t be playing for us. I think people need to accept that in League 2 you’re not going to have a 10/10 player every week. He’s got off to a reasonable start and that’s OK.
