I could play for Ireland. I would guess a significant number of Bantam Talk members have some Irish ancestry.

Not on a skill basis! Doh

Poor take. You think he really cares if he gets boo’d?

i thought he did well for us overall, so I clapped him on that basis. He was a character and also had good rapport with the fans in his first season.

He earned a big money move up a division, was a successful signing for us, and improved our team.

if ex players have done well for us, they’ll get a clap. If they were poor, they’ll get silence or a bit of a boo. But not for a minute do i think the boo will put them off their game! We mean nothing.

He showed his class by attending the fire memorial - class is something a lot of our neanderthal fans would know nothing about.

Muhammad Ali was upset when the Irish showed him to descend from an Irishman; Daniel Clay.

Seems like a nice fella but doesn't play for us anymore. Don't think the booing will have bothered him, he's probably had more of his own fans after a generally disastrous move although £3.5o a week definitely softens any blow. I didn't boo but I certainly didn't cheer, strange to cheer a bloke who a season decent football but had shown worrying signs of clangers at the end of it.

Not really. I recall Elliott Watt been one of the most recent players our fans boo’d, and he absolutely crumbled

Childish adults??? How old actually are you Kev? I’m guessing early to mid 70’s. If I’m right, you’ve seen more than enough football in your lifetime to realise that pantomime booing of an opposition villain is part and parcel of football. So you are tarring a hell a lot of people with that brush

He didn’t so well for us, we gave him a shot as he was going nowhere at Southampton, and aside from being a good shot stopper, everything else was miserable. No command of his area, flapped at most balls coming in, hand balled at Newport (and perhaps yesterday too??), awful distribution with most goal kicks going into touch, and saying “up the fecking chickens” to make fans think he’s a bit cool

    Give me a break

For clarity, are you saying any fans booing him yesterday are Neanderthals, or just that we have a lot of Neanderthal fans that aren’t as classy as you?

I agree with Kevin. I’ve been watching football since the early 60s and I’ve always found the booing of ex-players to be utterly cringeworthy. Even worse is the ‘Hello, hello, Bradford reject’ chant, which comes back to bite us on the bum so often.
The obvious exception to this being someone like Kevin Gray, who deserved all the booing he got, and more.

Like I’ve replied to a few people, that’s your opinion and stance on ex players and I respect that. Others decide not to do anything, and others boo and jeer, often to try and intimidate said player but I appreciate it does occasionally fire them up. Matty Lund for Salford I recall

We all react differently to ex players, but when posters start saying it’s distasteful, our fans are brain dead, or cringeworthy, or Neanderthal, then that pisses me off

Yes rather ironic those two were England's goal scorers on the day, although to be fair to Declan he didn't celebrate his goal and made it quite clear to his fellow team mates he would not celebrate, Windass celebrated like a man gone man when he scored against us, yet McGod did similar to Declan and made it quite clear he would not celebrate his goal for Sheffield United.

Less than the number you quoted but that’s not relevant , and yes I am tarring them all with the same brush. It’s kids stuff , and yes been around the block a tad but booing an ex City player for 90 mins……really ? Stanley Bowles only got 45 and he wasn’t ex City!

It's a weird one, for donkeys years I've followed us home and away (86 away grounds), yet yesterday I couldn't be motivated to go .

I've read comments on here and spoke to friends whom attended, with mixed feelings but in the main felt we just about deserved the win.

Mr Rupp and his cronies are killing my enthusiasm...

    Complete different perspectives on yesterday

There was definitely a higher tempo than of late but still lots of work to do, if saturday was just the start then all well and good, remains to be seen ....

The move was right for all parties concerned last January. We got a good replacement in Sam Walker, fortunately.

I wasn’t cheering him. But he showed a bit of class attending the fire memorial and kudos to him for that. A lot of players take no interest in their club, they are just a wage payer.

harry is a good lad. And any decent human being wouldn’t wish mental health issues on anyone - and it sounded like he was suffering a bit with insomnia previously. No wonder his performances dipped before he left.

Some players move on and I hope they fail. Not him. I hope he refinds his form. I clapped him as he approached the Kop as he deserved it for his efforts for this club.

Im saying the fans that booed him have no class, yes. A lot of our fans are just idiots. The proportion of idiotic fans, as a percentage of fans sat in each stand is largest in the Kop - even more the case now the Kollective are in there. I say this having moved STs every other season and moved all around the stadium - inc in all the suites!

Do ‘failed’ players earn moves from League 2 to big spending League 1 sides? The fact Barnsley were linked with him the summer before last tells you everything you need to know. To City fans it seemed a strange move as Carlisle came back down, but we only knew that with hindsight and with the Yanks splashing the cash, he may well have otherwise survived in another season. It was a move up the ladder when he went.

I thought the treatment handed out to Lewis, was in sharp contrast to that of Wyke. He was also sold on (we know the figure), and had the opportunity to play at higher levels, presumably with a larger salary. Yet there wasn’t a comparable vitriolic response to his appearance.
Both were fans favourites at VP, both left. Can anyone explain the difference?
