I seem to remember Rupp saying he may have to invest more. However I don't have any recollection of him saying we would have a "much" increased playing budget, that is something that we all assumed would happen.

I'm not angry, not good for my health, I just think for a guy who is obviously quite intelligent you have an habit of being quite childish. However if that floats your boat crack on lad.

In that case unless GA says he hasn't been provided with an improved playing budget, and he feels the signings he has made are good enough to get us promotion it's Alexander's judgement we should start questioning.

I think you are suggesting that GA needs to breach his contract and risk being sacked to disabuse the notion that SR's words haven't been backed up.

This season's recruitment doesn't feel any different to previous years in terms of the level of player we've targeted. I'll be very happy if I'm proved wrong.

I'd politely disagree Hb. I think it does feel different but unfortunately it actually feels like we've targeted cheaper rather than flexing our muscles and trying to improve.

If we knew absolutely nothing and just compared the outgoings and incomings, this latest reshape if the squad absolutely feels like a cost cutting excersize to me.

I would agree - given the outgoings in terms of players, -numbers and ones that you would have thought were receiving decent wages with the numbers we have recruited permanently supplemented by the 5 loanees is it?

Out of curiosity was GA asked about out of window free signings or did he say we’re done until Jan? There were a few decent players in the EFL trial teams who could offer something. I’m thinking backup DM and GK

It'd be nice to strengthen further but it does feel like we've a whole bench of "back ups" while the first team continues to look less than impressive.

I've just read the same BBC Sport article that you probably did, and was thinking exactly the same.

Like you I can’t recall his exact words but we must never assume.

We all know the well used definition.

Increased investment could be well be true and probably is, ( I bet the playing area renovations and doubled drainage wasn’t cheap, which was probably twice the normal annual cost) but knowing how that would be spent is unknown.

If we said 25% in playing budget, 25% on ground upkeep and so on…….

He made a promise of increased investment into the playing budget Kev. Renovations and ground improvements shouldn't have affected that.

I’d prefer that as well! I’m trying to find a list of the actual players but struggling.
Carl Jenkinson as a defender is probably have preferred to the loanees, if Dwight Gale still has a bit of pace also good

“Ryan expressed his concerns around our budget and the relative budgets of other clubs that are likely to be on the table in League Two next season, including those of teams being relegated from League One, and being promoted from the National League.
“We began the summer ahead of this season with a competitive budget, based on the current model, which we hoped could deliver play-off football. However, as the better-resourced clubs continued to spend, it is clear our budget became less competitive.
“I pledge my support to ensure we are now able to compete in the transfer market, giving us a greater chance of having a closer fight with teams at the top end of the table next season. In the past, this has not always been the case."

Who knows what his definition of "able to compete" is though?

Reading that back made me realise we went into last season aiming for the playoffs, I wonder if this season is the same.

If you somehow could get Ravel's head straight he'd tear up L2. Marcus Browne would probably better than most.
