But you've conveniently moved the discussion away from your idea of using the very same logic and rationale to say 1 player was good and 1 player wasn't.....ever thought about being a politician....

Prior to going to Gillingham, Oliver played 214 EFL matches between 2013-2020. He scored 29 goals in the EFL. So one goal per 7.3793103448!!! matches. The totality of his EFL career is one of a poor return.

Young has played 79 EFL matches (apart from his spell at Swindon). He has scored 11 EFL goals in those games. His return over those games is one goal per 7.1818181818.

Looking at the bald facts, no hyperbole, then their statistics are broadly similar (Young’s are better, fact).

Young’s purple patch ended about 9 months ago. Young is….well young, having just turned 23.

Oliver’s purple patch ended over two years ago. He will be 33 in a few weeks.

You may disagree, but Oliver is now past his sell by date. He has apparently has a good contract, which given his 3 EFL goals for City in two seasons, then the ratio of one goal every 12 EFL games is simply not good enough.

If you can’t see it, then you are to put it bluntly, myopic!

We have one central defensive midfielder

We have players that all essentially play the same position

None of those offer genuine width or can take on and beat a man

I have seen more speed on the back of a lingards toilet then I have in that midfield

Individually and in different systems, a midfield containing some variation of smallwood, sarcevic, pointon , pattison , walker, odour may seem an embarrassment of riches but the idea it works in this formation and system is a fallacy

Don’t forget that we are clear top of the “moral victory” league table as well.

What a time to be a city fan.

I'm a bit worried as I think Alexander is the right man for the job and will take us up this season or next but I'm worried that he's going to be the fall guy when it goes wrong.

Fans are not stupid. Rupp and co have clearly told us one thing and then done the transfer business of the cheap. Sparks is untouchable, Sharpe is his pal and so, unfortunately, Alexander will take the fall when a few bad results happen

You asked “who is at fault for us been in the toilet of the FL for 6 years?”

Rahic was the one responsible for the implosion of the club and completely unnecessary relegation, so I’m laying the blame squarely at his door. We all know how hard it is to get out of league 2 from the 2008-2013 period, but ultimately I trace it back to Rahic - he was the root cause of the problem we are in.

If the allegations are true then he was responsible for bombing himself out . The rest ……Non recyclable for me and irrelevant to his 7 or so goal contribution to the club. Profitable sale too!

So we sign 4 or five loan players with hardly any league experience in any of them.

True, but we have 19 other players (aka the first team regulars) with bags of experience between them. The loans are there for backup. We will see whether they are good enough, who knows?

Well after the previous lousy transfer windows from Sparks and Gent we can now add the dynamic Sharpe to the list - what a load of pap we are fed as fans. Extra investment, what a load of bollocks. One can only believe the 3 muppets above and Alexander are on a bonus if they can save Rupp money.

On WOAP they talked about our 'very very strong hand' up front! Let this sink in, if Cook heaven forbid get injured we are now relying on Oliver, Smith, Kav and Sanderson.

I am just staggered the initial additional revenue Rupp promised, the late increase in these funds we suddenly had available and the money we were always going to get for Young (despite the crap we were fed he was never going to stay) and we're supposed to believe we have been given the extra quality we were promised.
I am totally behind the lads who now form our squad and really hope we can maintain our reasonably good start but dont anyone try to tell me we have been delivered what we were promised by our men at the top

I'm very interested to know what this season's budget is. Sparks said a few months into last season in an interview that we had a 2.7-2.8m budget last season, and I just can't see how we are spending anywhere near that this year looking at the outs and ins.

If we are outside the POs come Jan, there's going to be some very expectant fans wanting the Young money and the "further investment" to be spent. Even if we are in the top 3 in Jan, get the cheque book out and make sure you stay there and start building for L1.

I think Rupp, Sparks or the new fella should be challenged an interview regarding what they’ve (and GA) said about extra investment. That final signing tops the lot. I see in his photo shoots, Benn is wearing a Rolex. Perhaps Rupp bought him that.

Rupp is the constant and Sparks is the present. 5 L2 failures......blaming Edin for our manager merigo rounds, shite signings and lack of investment is ludicrous. The blame Edin card expired years ago.

Yeh he played a big part in our relegation but our constant failures are nothing to do with him.

We have invested! We've brought in loads of players!

A lack of investment (spending) would mean we wouldn't have used any money to sign anyone.

    It's all about the semantics.

(And ignore some of the signings being loans but remember new players have actually joined the club)

We just never learn. I think we will regret the sale of Young, and it is no consulation that we will pick up more money. This player did not request a move anywhere, therefore the top management decided to cash in, and they didn’t even get that right. The way to gain promotion is to have a strong squad, that means you keep your best players and have back ups. Young was given no other choice but to leave in order to get his career back on track. All the background noise about Young being difficult, and feigning injury etc etc., is to be treated with disdain. I expect any professional manager to have the expertise to deal with it, If it happened, but in my view it is just our usual Sparks led crap.

Like others have said there has been no extra investment in the squad that I can see. So as to whether we have a strong squad or not my view is that you do not sell your best players and fill the gaps with ‘young maybe players’ we will have to wait and see how the season progresses. If we automatically gain promotion then yes we had a strong squad and a good slice of luck re injuries.

I send Jake Young on his way to continue his career where he might get the respect he deserves. Good Luck Jake.

So another start to the season starts like every other for the last how many crap years

A promise of change and progress with a helping of £ sucking in fans to believe again.

No plan, no direction, no identity, no ambition and I personally have no trust in Sparkes or a Rupp both lying bar stewards.

However the one thing that has annoyed me more than 6 years of failure , the wasted money, time and loss of excitement is the fact people call Pattison ‘Patto’

    first world problems eh

Genuine question - have we signed anyone in the latter half of deadline day that turned out to be a good signing?

They always seem to he rushed and end up underperforming to me.

Just woken up on holiday and checked out our last days transfer activity.

Never heard of either of our signings. Staggered to read that one of them is a right wing back, does this mean Johnson is out for longer than we thought?

Young for an undisclosed fee, surprise surprise, we will never get to hear how much. What are we doing with the funds, providing hot water in the kop toilets perhaps?

I cannot believe we haven't signed cover or competition for Smallwood and Sam Walker, criminal really.

God forbid if Cook gets injured.

On paper we have a good enough squad to succeed, if a bit unbalanced, but we are a couple of injuries away to 2 key men from this being another mid table slogfest.

Back to my holiday now and switching off again.
