I liked Ben Muirhead. He played 112 for us which seems amazing really - many more than the other players you mentioned.

I did too. He was rapid.

I remember a game at Reading where he ran the length of the pitch, they couldn't catch him. Squared the ball perfectly and we scored. If he could've done that regularly he would have been PL.

Paul Evans scored a great free kick in the 2-2 draw.

So we can't judge them until we've seen them but 4 games is enough to declare them both the second coming?

We should also ignore what they did or didn't do last year and base whether they are a good player or not on what they did a couple of seasons ago because apparently, that's the best indicator of whether they are a good player or not.

Do you know it was FGR who ended his loan and not him or Everton or he had an injury?

    Got a link?

Agree, Id suggest as he's not taken the offer up of a move (which both clubs have agreed on) if Fleetwood is true, he is doing just that, unless he has been told he won't be in Alexanders plans going forward which I trust Alexander hasn't as he comes across a genuine guy.

Fair enough Petrov I didn't see that. Linked to Reece Welch from Everton that could be him

He didn't play on Tuesday night either and Parker has said this morning that any talk of it being him is wide of the mark. Probably means he'll be announced at lunchtime today then.

Absolutely but game three showed Baldwin can have a very decent game. In fact the worst of our back 3 was Kelly , especially his passing.

Nevertheless it’s far too early to tell , totally agree.

Anyway what’s happening with Young ;)

The reality is that from the age of about 12 to 16 approximately 90% of the academy squad (per age group) are there to fill the numbers in order to put a side out and fulfil fixtures. Most as you say will never make it and you can see they're no better than lads playing in a Sunday league. Most Cat 1 academies are good at stringing families along and giving false hope. The parents need to honest with their kids and put a plan B in place.

I'm sure a lot of parents do try, but I can't imagine many kids at major academies want to hear about their a-levels - sensible future planning was never my top priority when I was a teenager

Some would say it still isn't!

But yeah. Chances aren't good... having a net below you is pretty essential when you're very likely to fall off.

I know in my heart of hearts that what’s going to happen with our twins with Ipswich.
Buying a new full kit season after season adds up to a fair amount between 8-15! Lucrative for the club and funds Academy indirectly.
11 plus exams already taken is plan B .

I have a relative who's been through the system and luckily made it through and is playing now. He's one of about 4 from his age group playing league football. Only one has truly made it into the Prem. In regards kit, you'd have thought these clubs worth millions can afford to give kits to the girls and boys, but you're right, the parents / guardians probably help fund the coaches.

Interesting comments in GA's presser yesterday, basically alluding to the fact that players need to train well and show a desire to do a job for the club to be selected, not directly aimed at Young, but the inference was there, and it might as well have been aimed at him.

To be honest, I agree with him. Training is part of the job, and in the normal world, you have to perform well in your job for for as long as possible to keep it. Someone who only performed well in big meetings but was a slacker elsewhere would soon be found out.

The days of Tony Currie, Stan Bowles, Frank Worthington etc, where you could just turn up on the day and keep your place have long gone. Show your desire in training or don't expect to be picked because if you aren't in the team, you aren't getting there on reputation these days, and you aren't getting picked until you do. Especially if that reputation is at another club and almost a year ago.

I'm sick to death of hearing about Jake Young now, the sooner he goes, the better.

Pal of mine at work, his lad was released from the Sheff Weds academy at the start of this summer, been there since he was 8. He said as a dad he didn't like the way it was handled, all the 16s squad got request for personal meetings, told to bring their parents and it was just basically "you wont make the grade, all the best" and they give you the rest of the few minutes to ask any questions. All those years of effort and it's done in 10 minutes. The family are all ST holders and have been for generations but he said his lad isn't really arsed about going anymore and isn't taking up footy at all at the minute.

How do you think it should be handled? There's ne easy way of doing it.
My lad got dropped by bradford the same way and although it was hard for him to take I didn't really see any easier way of saying your not good enough
