Our CB position feels considerably weaker atm than last season, and before anyone starts yes it's not the end of the window yet, give them a chance etc etc.

 

Surely we are bringing in another CB now then?

 

Kelly who was OK to decent last season, Baldwin has been OK at best so far, Byrne has had some ropey moments and the inexperienced Shepherd...... doesn't scream promotion does it?

 

Careful Jordan, you'll be stealing my 'negative' tag by questioning that back line.

 

I think the club will be putting extra effort into moving on the likes of MacDonald, Stubbs, Gilliead, Young, possibly Oliver, all what would be high wage earners at our club. I'm not sure what to make of the recruitment so far, there probably a decent enough side there but how Alexander gets the balance right who knows. I expect Adams to go straight into the playing squad tomorrow, whoever misses out will probably need to question his future here.

 

I have to disagree regarding Shepherd he looked very capable against Grimsby bags of pace and head and shoulders above our other defenders on the night

 

Just get behind the inexperienced backline ffs.

 

All I said on Shepherd was that he was inexperienced. Looks capable for sure, but a complete unknown.

 

Scrap Stubbs, gone on loan to Cheltenham for the season.

 

Teams have had trouble so far

 

A limited Grimsby side caused them trouble, at MK Dons we could have no complaints had we conceded 4 or 5. I think Shepherd will get more game time as the season progresses and i can see us signing a replacement for Stubbs.

 

Thats because we have signed crocks, average joes and shite this summer.

Ironically Cheltenhem have signed Stubbs to replace Shepherd.

Shepherd started 14 games for Cheltenham last season.

 

Shepherd - 8 starts for Cheltenham
Byrne - 11 starts for Stockport
Baldwin - let go by worse defence in English football
Johnson - a crock

I agree it’s defence that gives cause for concern but it’s early days and Baldwin has looked sound Byrne Solid in the air less so on the ground. Kelly we know all about. And shepherd comes with decent reviews. I was disappointed to lose Platt and Oyegoke and I am sorry to see Stubbs go as well so time will tell

 

Looks like he had 12 games for Cheltenham, 8 starts. But yeah same role, Shep played the middle of the back 3 for them mostly.
