Too much like for like, both don't have any pace. Would like to see Kelly in the middle of the 3 with Shepherd on the left of the 3.

Mansfield strikers Will Swan and Tom Nicholls are available for loan, interest from league 2 clubs. I wonder whether we are eyeing either of them as replacement for Jake Young or is Olly Sanderson his replacement?

That might work, I'm not sure if Shepherd is left sided, can't remember. It looks like GA isn't prepared to consider Sam Stubbs, unless there is another issue that we haven't been told about.

 

Nothing is moving forward with Young we could be stuck with him

 

I think Kelly is still a little raw to play that key central role. Whether he keeps his place ahead of Shepherd is anyones guess. As for Stubbs, I think GA might have been blindsided by the contract renewal and is adamant he won't play for him again. I'd have Stubbs in the middle ahead of anyone but there's obviously been a breakdown along the way.

 

Stubbs has the speed of an oil tanker but is the best technical centre back we have. Also an organiser and a voice at the back. Had a poor season last year but of what we currently have he'd be the centre of the three for me.

 

Shows how much Mansfield were willing to spend to be promoted last season, Swan signed little over a year ago and I remember looking at the time and the Forest forum thought he left for £250k, Mansfield fans online seemed to think it was more £150k. But even still, a lot for a player who isn't needed for the step up. Notts County fans seem to think they are getting Swan on loan.

Tom Nichols is nowhere near a L1 striker, bang average L2 at best these days..... however, he might be exactly what GA wants in this false 9/attacking mid/support striker to Cook. Nichols likes to drop deeper and play people in, he is more of a support striker than a centre forward. His goal return is fairly crap over the last 7 or 8 years, but his assists and availability might be what GA sees more in? So his last 2 seasons, he was in 87 of a possible 92 matchday squads. In those 87 appearances he started 63, scored 12 and assisted 17 times. I think one thing all fans can agree on so far this season is that Kav is struggling in this new system tweak, having to play deeper than Cook rather than a traditional front two but that role might suit someone like Nichols far better.

The striker situation is an absolute mess. Cant get rid of Oliver, trying to find a new home for Smith because he is crap, Kavanagh VASTLY over rated by our easily pleased fanbase who have quickly realised he is not a promotion winning striker....

We are been linked with some right old shite, yet we have a striker not deemed good enough who is been chased by League One clubs and we cannot wait to cash in. Let that sink in!!!

And we will be stuck with McDonald and Oliver, and the average defenders that arent as good as Stubbs.

The way we've handled him since he's been at the club is utterly bizarre. Ends up with him going out on loan to try and prove his worth, which he does beyond anyones expectations. Now can't even get a place on the bench every week, if the manager doesn't fancy him which is clearly the case the club should have moved him on January for both parties sake and at the point when his value was high.
