I can't comment on the Grimsby game because I'm away and couldn't get it on the sky app. But on the MK game, brilliant result and we dug deep, but after the 2 early goals we did play poorly and GA said as much. He said after we went 2 up we stopped doing the things they had talked about doing pre-match.

 

On the fence. Its not a marquee but doesnt look a disaster waiting to happen either. That said it doeesnt scream promotion ambitions either.

I think after signing 3 defenders early on, its telling we brought in another so late.....its not like we were short on numbers.

Funny because that suggestion from me was about Clarke being a number 10, which he was in his last two separate spells for us.

It was Aaron Hayden I believe, people suggesting that's the centre half we should have signed. Conceded 6 already. Don't get me started on Wyke who's being well off it according to Carlisle fans

 

That's correct before Shepherd signed Alexander said we needed someone to cover Kelly.
Shepherds performance at Grimsby albeit his first full appearance in Claret and Amber was really reassuring, this lad certainly gave a good account of himself and I'll hold my hands up to not been able to spot an undoubted defensive talent if he fails to deliver this season.

You see that's the problem again in a nutshell, like the majority of us have said.

Basically if Smallwood gets injured we further weaken the team by moving another player from a key attacking role to be shoehorned into a position he doesn't fit.

It's madness, just sign cover for goodness sake. I'm all saving budget and not hoarding players for the sake of it , but going into a season with one central defensive midfielder is crackers

 

We couldn’t under Rupp afford his flight back from Riyhad.

Next signing I imagine will be another cheap and cheerful loan.

 

I disagree serg. We added 2 poor defenders and an injury prone right back to a cluster of very average defenders.

 

Bradley Dack signed for Gillingham again. Some really good EFL names of the last 5/6 years have dropped to L2 this summer.

 

Only 30 too. Fitness depending he could absolutely tear up this division.

 

Other clubs have made some great signings too over the last few days.

And here we are with two first choice defenders who have mainly played in non-league with one of them in a defence that conceded 86 goals last season. Couldn’t make it up!
