Moaning we won our first game when nobody expected it and were the better team last night despite the result with 5 changes. Bit early to be denouncing isn’t it

Any of our new signing could take up that role.

We weren't the better team when we lost. We also looked vulnerable on the break and were out-thought on the penalties.

Out thought it was 9 8 we missed a penalty and had a perfectly good goal chalked off more shots on an off target and I am confident with the first even on the 31st it will be 3 points

All the things MK Dons did and all you said then was "who scored more goals".

Absolutely spot on. Some folks on here need to change the record.

I think on what we have seen so far Olly that is pretty clear, some signs of promise andd some of real concern.
Key is can our brainstrust deliver the quality we obviously still need

Shepard seems okay. Kelly is decent at best. That's the left side sorted. We don't have to hear any more news on Crichlow. Some makes out like he's the second coming of Maldini. He's just a bit quicker than our stationary defenders, an is somewhat of a better passer, albeit he takes about 5-10 seconds to release a ball forward

Baldwin looks erratic to me. Positionally not the best, an poor judgement making when going for a loose ball. Now that may be overcome if we had a quality CB in the middle, but we don't. Despite his age, Byrne doesn't look the most experienced of defenders. His reading of the game isn't on par to what we need. We need Stubbs in the middle, but if GA doesn't rate him, or he's not match fit, then ship him off an push the boat out on a League One quality CB.

that's all we need. One quality CB, and cover/competition for Smallwood. Probably the former, we don't have the funds to pay out another midfielder of that caliber

There's plenty of room as we'll need 4.

I also think we need cover/competition for Smallwood but GA has said today he doesn't think it's needed. Raynor asked him what he would do if Smallwood got injured/suspended and he said he would play Pattison there instead.

The trouble is…….we have signed players……based on a lower budget.

Had the extra funds been released……at the end of May……..a few of those we have signed, may well have been passed over for potentially better quality players!

So we are stuck with the new signings….who we could potentially have improved on.

Personally it seems madness…..l would rather have had the club shut up about these new funds…….found under the floorboards of a 911!

    At CB:

Josh Grant - Ex Chelsea and Bristol Rovers.
Michael Hector - Ex Reading, Chelsea, Charlton.
TJ Eyoma - Ex Spurs and Lincoln.

These are the only players who I can see that are still free agents and would be anywhere near suitable for us.

Obviously, we don’t know who is available for transfer or loan, but just goes to show that there aren’t many options out there now that we have left it this late.

Spot on. Just seems so backward.

But in the March statement, didn't they say that Ryan flew out to Germany to have a meeting and they spoke about budgets and they agreed they needed to change?.... how the hell are we doing that exercise again in August?

We look like we are needlessly playing catch-up in the market because of mismanagement or naivety... or both.

I think the transfer committee may have seen too familiar a pattern developing with how we played in the two games so far, and realise we still have the same issues as last season. We don't manage the ball well enough and don't seem to have the nous to retain possession. When Jamie Walker arrived in that first half season, he was making intelligent runs in behind and stretching defences. For whatever reason (maybe formation), he doesn't do that now and operates deeper. We don't have anyone doing that anymore. Everything seems to happen out wide. It's very early days, but they're at least seeing what we are and will hopefully address that in the next week or so.

I'd be interested to know if Alexander's previous teams were free scoring or struggled to put the ball in the net.
