It wasn't really his fault, it was a well worked goal and a terrific pass from Hendry with just the right amount of pace on the ball. OK, Halliday couldnt catch him but Baldwin was also taken out of the game. Main problem was a defensive unit that hadn't played enough together to know who picks up which man. We have to hope they get better quickly.

 

All well and good reliving their chances but that's all they are.

 

He's done very well in the extremely limited minutes he's played for us.

 

If thats the standard you think necessary then fine.

What some are forgetting we had very close to a similar number of chances as they did but that’s conveniently forgotten in amongst all their passing game. One major difference, we put two of them away, they didn’t. Not forgetting their og air kick!

 

But then ones called condescending and patronising. I enjoy a little bit of fishing, stands back and awaits

 

So we put ONE of our chances away then? The 2nd goal was freak. I can’t recall us having any other clear cut chances after the 5th minute.
All told, we probably played them at the best time whilst they have new players gelling and we caught them cold in those first few minutes, then defended for our lives. It was not by any strectch a convincing victory but welcome all the same.

 

The thing i don't want to see repeated is the lack of respect we had for possession both in defence and attack. A lot of their possession was based on us just giving them the ball straight back from needless punts downfield. Criminal against a team who base their whole game on possession stats.

I’ve watched twice in full

Cook ahead of their defence on a breakaway , keeper got to it a split second before he did. 1st half
Curler from Pattison going inside the far post , diving interception by their centreback prevented the goal.2nd half
Oliver pulled back by their defender tight on the edge of the box when free .2nd half
Cook one on one with the keeper, just palmed away for a corner . 2nd half
Wright free on the left again crossed, just intercepted by their diving keeper before Cook. ( Cross could have been better.!) Ist half.

These are no more nor less or freak chances than they had. The fact they couldn’t hit a barn door or got bigger shins than feet isn’t our fault.

Nobody said it was convincing , however on the other hand let’s not keep bulling the opponent up despite their inability to score, freakily or not?

That’s football, a win is a win and I’ve seen it happen to us dozens of times over the decades at VP. They will get over it when they buy a centre forward instead of selling their leading scorer to a mediocre team in Belgium perhaps?

Sorry Kev but that's just not true. MK had more attempts at goal on every single measurable metric and without a doubt had the clearest opportunities.

We only really created one high quality chance alll game, when their keeper saved with his face from Cook.

 

I know what the metrics are Dave, really what do we expect against a decent side at home? You are forgetting Pattisons curler which was going in only to be intercepted by a fortunate or being kind a clever defender . There’s only two metrics to consider at the end of the day.
Goals F/A and 3 points in the bag . What do we expect at the end of the day , away from home against a well fancied side . Most expected nothing more than a hammering let’s be honest . They won’t be far off at the end of the day of course but I take satisfaction in the knowledge for balance, home and away included, last two games we hammered them on the goal scoring front 6-1 . That was no fluke surely?

 

I agree that the result is what matters at the end of the day Kevin, I just couldn't agree about creating as many chances as they did and if everyone is honest, they wouldn't have expected to away from home.

Job done now though and we move on, hopefully with steady improvements that can match the performances to hopefully consistent results.
