Maybe the way to get the most out of Young you need to be able to let him swan about doing what he feels like. Well if we're going to be a press from the front team that's just not going to work. Can only see us being able to let him do that if Cook is injured/ Really he needs to go to a team where he is by far the best player so the other 10 players can do his work for him

If we are all being honest, Oliver, Young and Smith, have all flattered to deceive in City colours and not one of them would be a fatal loss.
All have more bad than good points.
We have to trust GA on this, he sees them every day and has 40 years in the game.
Bradford city is a strikers grave yard and players that score 15 plus every season have be few and far between for us.
We do need to find that goal scoring support for Cook. Kavanagh looks promising but is inexperienced, lets see what this new kid has to offer and maybe see if Ibbitson can push on.

 

If Saturday was anything to go by, Kav seemed more of a 10 than an out and out partner for Cook? He certainly dropped into the midfield line when we didn't have the ball, and when we did he was always 10/15 deeper than Cook. Makes me wonder if that's an away from home tactic? As we'll sit deeper and play on the break a bit more? But when we are home, it's more of the ball and Kav or whoever can naturally play higher up?

Will be interesting to see how that support role for Cook goes as the season kicks on. If we want an actual partnership or a 9 and a drifter between support and attacking midfielder, as he was on saturday.

It’s a decent ploy . Kav ran his socks off and didn’t get much credit on here , he’s still a lot to learn and when fitness and technical ability improves I’m sure he or maybe the new loanee may prove to be a real asset in the role. Takes a lot of pressure off Cook!

 

Amended for accuracy as you have had him scoring 27, 28,29 & 30 league goals in those two season and anything between 10 and 82 MOTM awards.

 

you could be correct and it becomes a horses for courses thing.
I just love a goal scoring patnership, where if one has an off day, the other is still there to score.
If Cook does not score regular i do wonder who will, maybe the midfield will chip in with more.
Certainly a great strike on Saturday. A lot more of that type of shooting please.

I think thats why we have gone from a 2 man midfield and a 10, to a more 3 man midfield with 1 sitter and 2 attacking mids. We needed more bodies in and around the box and that will solve that issue as well as plugging gaps (fingers crossed) when we dont have the ball.

It takes a squad to go up and everyone plays a role. On partnerships, Hanson and Wells was the last successful one, but that promotion season they started 28 of the 46 league games, there was still over a third of the season that they didn't start together and we needed Connell and others to try play their part. We'll need that again this season, i can see a world where Kav starts 15/20 games, Smith starts 10/15 etc and the role is shared out.

Or wanted to play, or wanted to train or wanted to be respectful to his manager . It’s water under the bridge, nobody knows the real truth, so harp back to days gone by doesn’t help today’s situation. He might “ play” tonight, but with Sanderson coming in , the writing may be on the wall?

The writing on the wall maybe for all of our front line, who knows. What I found interesting the club’s changing nuance. Now we don’t have to wait until one of our players leaves before we sign another. GA said the other week we were getting close to the FFP rule. Plus we had the one in one out comment from GA I think a few weeks ago. Maybe somebody has injected some money into the players pot.
