What Maguire says is perfectly correct. Owners cannot inject equity into their club and expect it to be repaid sometime in the future. On the other hand loans are expected to be repaid at some point. And that distinction is embodied in the FFP regime when cash from the owner is used to augment the playing budget. The definition of 'Turnover' as used by the EFL for FFP purposes includes equity injections. That's a bizarre concept from an accountant's perspective but it's the EFL's regime. In practice that means so far as the playing budget is concerned, equity is permissible; loans aren't. The only cash which Rupp has invested in the club to date was just after Rahic's exploits were unearthed and that was eventually converted into a loan by the club.

Away from football, businesses which want to grow and develop tend to ask their shareholders to provide the cash as equity. That's on the basis thst the investment will help to grow the business and the shareholders will be the eventual beneficiaries of that. Why a football club would do something different defeats me.

I meant to say net income rather than net turnover

I think the statistic from a couple of seasons ago was something like 55% of the 92 clubs are technically insolvent and a bored owner away from being in huge trouble, it's a huge problem in football which needs tackling or it will be a matter of time before another club goes into administration then if it does happen the players are fine as their wages are safe due to the football creditors rule but the staff behind the scenes face either losing their job or going a long time without being paid.

The difference is people put money into football clubs with an almost certain realisation they are not going to see it again

In terms of investment then @Dennis@Dennis it's stated that money put in cannot be paid back if not to count under FFP or whatever acronym we fall under.

Does this mean he couldn't invest £1/2m now then, and if we got promoted pay himself a nice dividend next year on the back of increased revenue due to being in league one?

It's not quite as simple as that. Before the club could distribute any dividend to its owner, it would first have to earn several millions of profit to overturn its accumulated losses. That won't be happening in the near future.

If Rupp needed or wanted the cash which a dividend might have provided, imo it would be easier for the club to simply repay some of his loan. Better still for Rupp and the club would be to convert some of his current loan into equity and that could be used to supplement the current playing budget without him having to find any more cash at all. I don't understand why he hasn't done that already if Alexander is correct that the budget really is up against the FFP limit.

More chance of the Yorkshire ripper getting parole , and he’s dead, than Rupp selling shares and putting money into the club. We can forget about fanciful ideas like that.

Maybe his influence will be long term, or maybe his hands are tied? But so far there’s no evidence of change, imo of course.

We still have to pay them no matter what . A contract is a contract , unless they agree to waive it or join another club on less money to get game time, then we have to make up the balance..

Pretty good, needs bulking up a bit. Was part of the FA Youth Cup and U18 PL winners, did ok last year in EPL2. He did the first team pre season camp and the US tour. Could be another Cullen or on the other hand a Nevers!

Are you always this argumentative? Every comment you make seems to be a disagreement with someone else.
