    Personally I'm more positive about Shepherd's signing than a couple of others. Not that I've seen him play; it's solely based on my friend's opinion who is a lifelong Barnsley supporter. When the rumours started about Shepherd possibly joining us, my friend phoned me to say he would be a good signing for us .. but hoped it wouldn't happen on a permanent basis. He's athletic, strong, a good header, can mix it with big strikers, comfortable with the ball but inexperienced and naive at times. Those aspects are hardly surprising given his late start into the pro game. My friend had hoped that he'd learn his trade more at Oakwell but understands that he needs gametime for that and there's no guarantee that would happen at Oakwell.

    We'll have to wait and see whether my friend's view of Shepherd is the right one or not. If it is then Shepherd should be making his mark as a regular in the back three whilst he's here.

    It was always said to be a loan , so why is anyone actually surprised ……. It’s a loan? Loan players cost money. If we are paying for six to 12 months of his new 2+ year L1 contract that’s coming out if the budget and would cost far more than a L2 journeyman’s deal we all winge about?

    Listen chaps, I understand all that, but I won't be fully content until they announce pool tables on the course and zumba on the pitch at half time. Until both of those things happen, then i'll remain eternally sceptical
