Are you talking about the defence or the squad in total. If it’s the squad Sarcevic did Walker would Cook would Halliday would and probably more

I think the defence did ok but we still didn’t create a lot, and the Cook goal was the only thing he did up to halftime.

On the highlights Cook is involved in absolutely everything and certainly the second goal too by winning the initial ball.

I honestly don't understand why people can't see how absolutely vital he is too the team and for me he's consistently been the best all round striker in the division, bar none.

You need a min of 5 to cover injuries , suspensions etc. We had 6 last year and still had to play bloody Rides at Left centre half !

I’m only going on the game as I watch it and he didn’t win much or hold up play at all first half. Bar one or two chances and the goals, the front 2 of Cook and Kavanagh didn’t work as a pair. I’d have him in there every day of the week, but the anomaly is how do we get more from the others with Cook as the target man. When Oliver came on 2nd half, he certainly won more of the ball in the air and seemed to link well with Smith. Bobby was wasted out left and I can see Sarcevic, Walker and Pattison being the 3 behind Cook and ANOther.

I didn't see the game so I'll have to accept your opinion but looking at the 8 minutes of highlights Cook seemed to be centre and forefront of all the highlights.

That lob attempt after he was pulled back near the centre circle showed just how much confidence he has and that can only be a good thing going into the season where we'll be expecting yet another 20+ goal campaign.

The Sunderland Echo report described him as "impressive" too.

Cook did what he does scored a great goal. And he looks as slim as he did the season before last. He is not at his best with his back to the goal but works his socks off and puts his chances away

Well unless things change before the end of the window Alexander was bang on when he said one signing Wright and the others possibly loans.

From what I saw on the telly box, he looked ok. Certainly put himself about.

Oyegoke was rubbish for all but 4 games at the end of the season Tomlinson has potential but was hot and cold. Platt was solid and reliable so is Stubbs so if one of the 4 new signings come off we’ll be stronger

For what it is worth here is my take on the summer...

For the last few summers we have constantly ripped it up and started again in terms of the squad. Players have left and arrived in too large a number to provide any consistency and then it seems like we realise this too late. For this reason, in some ways I welcome a quieter summer signings wise and I am often left scratching my head at those that write players off the moment they sign as not good enough, or even the answer to all our problems. The thing at this level is there are no guarantees. Football is a weird game. Some players look absolutely useless at some clubs (a lot at City come to think of it!) but then move somewhere else and thrive. They find the right environment, management, backroom staff, playing squad or something which means they perform at levels not seen before.

Like I say, I am pleased that for the first time in a long time we have not ripped the squad apart for another full rebuild and have, hopefully, added well. Only time will tell how successful this is but at least it represents some change from previous years approach.

Exeter City found keeping a large percentage of their players together very beneficial so much so they got promoted.

Because they haven't had a striker for like 3 years
