2024 Released Players & City transfer rumours

Sounds a promising signing and Barnsley fans sound like they want him to stay as cover. Said he played well in a friendly last week. Interesting Darrell Clarke who had him at Cheltenham on loan is now manager at Barnsley and shipping him out.
It sounds like he just needs games to me but should be a a decent signing for that left side of defence.

 

I assume he's not a LWB, so is he cover /competition for Kelly. I think GA rates Kelly. Other then when he was injured I think he's played very game. I am more concerned about CB and RCB. I didn't go last night, how did Byrne and Baldwin look anyone? And Kelly for that matter.

 

Lets be honest, you can always find clips to show a player in a positive or negative light - for me the biggest potential plus is we obviously identified him some time ago and were prepared to wait until a deal could be struck.

 

As stated only a friendly but I liked the Look of Byrne good in the air and decent long passes. Jury still out on Baldwin he was up against it with their number 14 and Kelly was solid as usual

He's a CB. Played more as the middle CB so far in his career than the LCB. Competition for both slots is my guess. Kelly is the only left sided CB so we did need another, but this lad might well play the central role. Sounds like he isn't blessed with pace.

 

If it is Shepherd, another central defender then I am very confused!
Why are we looking to sign yet another CD?
We already have Byrne, Baldwin, Stubbs and Kelly.
Can't get my head around that at all!!!

 

If you are using 3 per game, you'll always have an injured around the place (especially with Stubbs on the books) and a central defender naturally tots up yellows and the odd red. If you play a back 3, you need a minimum 5 these days and then one who can cover the role either a DM or FB. I mean, look at the end of last season when we tried making a CB out of Oyegoke and played Ridehalgh at LCB? We could have done with a 5th CB then and maybe thats what GA is thinking?

 

Still leaves us short at left wing back though, I'm not convinced by any of Richard's, wright or pointon (as per last night) being there long term

 

Dont disagree, but LWB is a closed door i think. GA has pubicly said it's Wrights role. Richards back up. Think he'd rather use Gilly, Odour or Pointon (in that order) as a make shift LWB, rather than spend more squad budget on that role. It's not great, but there's enough bodies there. CB depth is way more of a requirement at the minute.

Then maybe a back up for Smallwood? Another loan I'm guessing when McDonald leaves? Otherwise we are a bit short of sitting midfielders if Smallwood gets banned or injured.

 

I'm amazed Nicky Cadden is still without a club. He'd be a great signing, which means he won't even be on our radar.

 

I doubt very much we will be bringing in another LWB,I would like to see another holding midfielder I think we are covered then unless anyone leaves

If Oliver wasn't in the manager's plans, why didn't Jake Young come on yesterday instead of him?

 

Because it isn’t like for like Young is not a centre forward.Wouldn’t be surprised to see Young go don’t think he has the work rate for an Alexander player

 

I thought Byrne looked impressive, had a really good game in the centre of the three at the back. The first chance for Sunderland was down to a mistake from Baldwin but he was OK after that.

 

That's good to hear. We're going to need at least one of them to have a really solid season.

 

A LCB is also allowed to play CB, just like a RCB is allowed to play CB. So both Shepherd and Kelly are allowed to be in the same line up.
