I was in Vienna in May and tried the Viener Schnitzel at the restaurant that supposedly originated it.
I thought it was bland, quite dry, unappetising and found it difficult to finish it, which is most unlike me. If that’s their national dish they’re welcome to it. I won’t be having it again.

 

Best we had was in Bratislava! If they don’t “ season” the coating properly they are bland as you say.

 

A few years ago I had a chicken parmo in Stockton-on-Tees. My arteries are still clogged

 

I had schnitzel while working in Luxembourg a few years ago, the hotel had a German, Austrian, Swiss and somewhere else menu and it was decorated like some Bavarian ski hut. Thought the same, very very bland, very forgettable dish. Only reason I remember it, was that it was the same night of Josh Wright jogging back whilst I think it was Barnsley score against us? Tracking the game updates whilst trying to get through a schnitzel, but there were very very good beers on to soften the culinary and sporting blows.

 

Agree. Chicken breast is dry at the best of times and you need to add moisture to it whilst cooking. Adding breadcrumbs just extracts the moisture. Chicken Kiev is nice provided it is not over cooked but that normally has butter and garlic in the middle.
