I can understand if he is not in the plans, but why would Kev Mac be awkward? Surely you would send all the squad to Austria? May need him during the season.

WOAP have hinted he has been a disruptive presence since he was told his future lies elsewhere. If there is even a hint of truth to that, it's the last thing needed when you are trying to build togetherness and team spirit.

It's really surprising to me that it's got to this stage. I can understand if he was annoyed at basically being forced to take caretaker charge which meant sacrificing game time but to be stopped from going to on the tour it has to have gone much further than that. It can only be a big falling out with the manager or an order from the top to force him out. It will be interesting to see if he is included in the squad for the friendly against BPA tomorrow night. At this stage he has 3 options open to him:
    1. Find a move away
    2. Accept his time is over an negotiate a mutual termination of his contract
    3. Sit on his contract until either it ends or we agree to pay him off in full
If he really wants to keep playing then you would expect he will want a move ASAP as the longer it goes on the harder it will be to get a move. If he wants to sit on his contract then that's his prerogative then the decision is ours to make. For me if his disruption is manageable then I'd wait until the end of the window to pay him off in the hope someone takes him and then worst case scenario is we might have to give him a bit of money to make up for the lower wage he'll get.

Or it could simply be he has a move lined up and is staying here to finalise it rather than the bill#cks conspiracy of a rich former PL/ former international throwing teddies around at being cut by a skint league two team.

The guy is a mature leader of men, why would he act like a petulant child ?

Let’s face the facts. He played at a very high standard level of football, before having to accept his best days were behind him following his kidney transplant etc. Probably felt railroaded into the caretaker manager role (pretty sure he wasn’t forced) and said he didn’t want the full time gig. His ex teammate comes in, gives him a fair crack, buts let’s face it he put in some abysmal performances, none more so than the Harrogate away debacle. He was then dropped and the team improved greatly, and he probably took exception that a former teammate was now his gaffer. GA wants players that can last a full season, doing the bulk of 90 mins per game - and bloody rightly so. We fans have had to contend with enough sub standard shite over the last 6 seasons, we don’t need another one just due to the sentiment that we owe him for managing us. He is also likely to be one of the higher earners

To give you an idea of his awkwardness and petulance, they had a timed swim session recently. Everyone else was done inside half an hour, MacDonald was still pissing about in the pool nigh on 2 hours later. Don’t ask me how I know, I ain’t saying, but it’s true. That is when GA made his mind up that he was leaving him in Blighty to train with the kids while the squad went to Austria for some team bonding. GA should have everyone’s full backing on this, MacDonald is a seasoned pro and should have handled this scenario much more maturely than he has done

He’s been largely forgetful as a player as far as I’m concerned, another in a long line of flops, so bollocks to him and good riddance

Should never have been handed a 2 year deal and ridiculous that he was, given his health issues. A year with an option of another in our favour should have been the way to go and had it been, we wouldn't be in this scenario now.

Again, Sparks and Gent handing out rediculous contracts at the behest of Hughes. Those two really have wasted a rediculous amount of money on players who wouldn’t get a contract anywhere else. Very few players leave us and move up the leagues, the NL and below is littered with our star signings of yesteryear…
