Id take Norwood on two conditions. Firstly its only a one year contract and secondly it’s a replacement for Oliver who we manage to move on.

Norwood on 4kpw on a three year deal is madness but Norwood on 3kpw on a one year contract could be decent business. He scored 17 goals last year and Oldham fans seem to speak favourably of him in what they say was otherwise a poor side. He’s also played well with Cook before albeit a few years ago.

In fairness, he's one of the few non-ex-City players who has been mentioned in the past, so probably just another annual regurgitation.

He could be at Canvey Island next season and someone would still link him with us at 35.

It would be pretty mental signing Norwood or any other forward, without someone (Oliver) leaving? I cant see it if I'm honest, outside of a one season punt but he'd need to take a huge pay cut.

You'd be pretty pissed off if you're Kavanagh, going from starting most games in our end of season run to potentially being 4th choice. One positive for Norwood, he tended to play 90 mins often, one negative..... he looks like he ran about 15 yards all game. He scored 17 in the NL (5 pens), scoring in 13 of his 40 games with 34 of those being starts. He had a slight injury in Feb which cost him a month of the season, and when he came back he played regularly but couldn't get form, just 1 goal in 11 to finish the season which was a penalty. He actually didn't score in open play in 2024.

I'm just glad that the promise of additional funding to fuel genuine ambition is materialising, meaning we're not dicking about signing players in their mid 30s out of the National League.

 

I am pleased about that. We have to play a straight bat with these players. Leaving them behind would create disharmony in the squad. That is the very last thing we need. This is entirely in Rupp’s hands he is the one with the tightly shut wallet. If they are still here come the end of the window, then obviously they will not have a full part in the squad.

I don't think Norwood would really hamper Kav, he'd just be there to take a load off of Cook and be another option. It's a long old season, Kav and Bobby will inevitably have dips and need spells out plus we want to be able to be flexible. Cook and Norwood up top 442 when you need a goal in the last 20. I'm worried we're starting to consider sticking with Oliver so swapping him for Norwood gets a thumbs up from me.
