I think it's more than lack of pace. Quite frankly he looked no better than the much maligned Taylor last season.

I'm not a big fan of Kelly either, so for me, central defence is our biggest weakness.

I do though think Byrne will be a good decent, based on no more than Dave Challinor clearly rating him by virtue of signing him three times.

As said before we have to give the new boys chance before we make any assessments. But it is difficult to disagree if thats more or less it with additions then we have been stitched up like a kipper in terms of new investment in the team.

And before Park spouts his usual drivel on Young and Pattison, they are already our players, financed and contracted! I just hope Rupp, Sharpe, Sparks and Alexander have something up their sleeve or many fans will feel they've had the wool pulled over their eyes.... yet again!

I'm well known on here a full back aficionado .
Joking apart I hope he does well and that GA has got it right, but I thought it was a lazy signing he looked mostly disinterested during his time here last season. I hope that wasn't because he doesn't want to play LWB.

One of the problems with that particular position is can Wright defend as well as he attacks, early days last season we were conceding too many headers from Halliday's side of the pitch.

Time will tell mate. He was part of the good run at the end and not 100 % fit apparently.
Hopefully we are on the front foot and having to defend at a minimum

The investment could be anything, extra work on the pitch from his pocket rather than the clubs income, buying the stadium and not having to pay rent thus increases the clubs spending power.
Who knows, non of us, only those at the top end of the club
    Jury is still out

On paper that looks an incredible signing. Spoken to my mate who’s a Sheff Wednesday fan and he’s shocked he’s gone there, he would have kept him in the Championship. He looked destined to sign for Blackpool but it seems Darren Moore has managed to convince him to go there.
His injuries seem to have been earlier in his career as he’s played 100 games in the last 3 years.

As you say there are more ways of investing than direct investment into the player budget.

The lease on the stadium ends in 4 years! No way Gibb is selling early unless we pay a termination fee. As for the pitch, its a shitty excuse. Other teams manage to play us off the park and take 3pts. We also struggle on billiard pitches at other grounds.

When its all said and done it is clearly investment required on the pitch before anything else. Our 6th season in the toilet of league football. Sort that out then worry about the rest.

    Fans are getting restless.

If Byrne was really decent he'd have played league football long before he was 29/30. He's been a non league journeyman for 95% of his career so far and at 31 I'm not expecting rapid improvements now.

Yes we need to improve the playing staff, but the pitch needed major work and how many fans moan we own nothing.
Its a balancing act for clubs like Bradford city.
53% win rate for GA and with spells of dire football when key players were missing, gives me hope for next season.

Some posters appear to be trying to rewrite recent history with a growing view that investment in the club by the owner might be used in other ways. As a reminder to everybody, this is what Rupp wrote in his open letter to the fans ...

"I pledge my support to ensure we are now able to compete in the transfer market, giving us a greater chance of having a closer fight with teams at the top end of the table next season"

That's pretty clear to me; whatever else he does regarding the purchase of the ground or spending money to improve the pitch or bringing in an additional person to support the manager, his first promise (or pledge in his words) was to inject money into the playing budget so that we can compete with the other teams on the playing side. As far as I'm concerned, as much as I'd like to see VP back in the hands of the club, first and foremost it's the playing side which has to be improved unless we want to see our club in Div 2 for another season. Whatever happens with VP etc, it's fulfilling his pledge on the playing side on which I'll be judging Rupp.

But how are we supposed to attract second rate ex Manfield crocks when we have no water in the bogs?

2 departures of high ranked positions so close to each other can really only mean 1 of 2 things:
    • Something going on behind the scenes that's caused unrest
    • David Sharpe doesn't think they are good enough and getting rid of them to bring in improvements.
Mark Litherland doesn't seem like he's got another job so he's not stepped down at the end of the season to move to another club. Looking at the staff list on the website there seems to have been a few on the field staff left over the summer and we are still yet to replace Greg Stebbings so we don't currently have a fitness/physical performance coach which can't be ideal in pre-season.

I guess we'll see over the next few weeks/months who replaces them and if there are any other staff that suddenly leave with another job not lined up.

I don't disagree with any of that, I like Stubbs as it happens, I was just stating that his lack of pace is his biggest weakness.

I like Kelly and think he will further improve this season.

No need to apologise all about opinions, but if he does buy back Valley Parade and the rent is reduced then we're paying less than we did to TFLPF then the club have less out lay, yes I'd love him to bang a large wad in but unless its a late signing then it looks like we may have to make do with Alexanders comment with regards loans, as long as were up there and in the mix for a promotion place I'd think most would be happy.

Some teams really stepping up their business this last week or so and looking like they fancying pushing the boat out and giving it ago.

Are we waiting too long on targets, do we even have targets, do we have to move folk on first, or are they happy with the status quo

Some pertinent questions facing Alexander and Co at the minute
