The original poster.never said they were the better all and end all, he asked Park for some additional evidence to back up his claim that Wright had played a part in the last 6 or 7 games other than word of mouth. Sometimes I agree that stats can be misleading and be used to suit a narrative but equally stats are now one of the biggest parts of modern football, Brentford base their operation on it. For that reason I'm on the fence with Wright playing wing back. Alexander fancies him there but then equally Alexander has done things last season that clearly weren't gonna work eh playing Stubbs and Taylor together.
What goes in Wrights favour this time is we have better options available in midfield, something a wing back really needs to be successful.

Would be interesting to see the full stats for Gilly and how he best influences a potentially successful team. Best engine on a player in the squad with a work rate to match, for his sake could do with nailing a permanent role down.

In his first spell I thought he was excellent. Given he's still young he should have the capability of hitting the same heights again, and may even develop further. If that's the case we have a great player on our hands.

In his second spell I thought he was OK, certainly not poor. Given he'd not played much in a year at Plymouth, initially got injured upon arriving with us, and then broke his toe, its understandable he was lacking in fitness/sharpness and confidence. A preseason with us should hopefully get him back to his best.

As for playing at LWB, he certainly has the physical and attacking attributes to do well there. Defensively there are still question marks, although I didn't see much evidence of teams hurting us down his wing at the end of the season. And Alexander obviously seems to think he has what it takes to play the role well.

So all in all I'm reasonably happy with this signing.

An example of what stats mean in terms of recruitment. Rio Adebisi, the new left wing back for Peterborough signed Crewe. 4 goals and 7 assists alerts the attention of free scoring sides like Peterborough and I expect Alexander will be looking for a similar type of effort from Wright next season.

Mixed opinions on here regarding this one, and tbf both sides of the coin have valid reasons and both views can back it up. For me I have no problem with this signing, yes once again it obviously stinks of typical City in bringing back an ex player etc. and to play LWB also brings obvious concerns, but I'll throw a typical City fans optimistic spin out there from my view which is if I remember correctly his first spell he was here he played on the wing under MH and tracked back well, I'm not buying any bs from the club regarding we paid big to bring him back simply because Plymouth wouldn't have had to pay him any more than we were paying him to attract him to a higher division, and lastly I'm happy for GA to try an attack first minded player at wing back because extra emphasis towards attack is the reason for playing wing backs and if it doesn't work out for him in that position then at least we know he's still useful in forward attacking positions.

What did he do that made you feel he played well?

Not true and you're piling in at the end of a debate and havent bothered to read back as to why I'm challenging Park. He said Wright finished the season well. I've asked him numerous times to provide some data points to support his point of view because i disagree with him. He hasn't provided anything. Now you haven't provided anything other than "I watched the matches and he did well". What does that even mean? I'm trying to understand Park's and now your point of view but you're giving me nothing so I went and looked at the stats for the last 6 games as I took that to be "the end of the season", I can go further back. Now you're arguing about what I've provided but providing nothing from your point of view so it's probably best you give up.

The problem is you say things that aren't true to try and justify your point of view instead of saying "here are the outcomes that show he played well". In an earlier post you mentioned Jake Reeves passing stats. Can you provide a source on that as I can't find anything or are you making stuff up like Park?

I always have to struggle to remember Richards. Every time I struggle to remember who the other LWB is.

Maybe that's why I'm not feeling great about it, but actually Richards looked good there last season.

I wouldnt be surprised if Richards locks down that position after they pick Wright early on.

So that makes me feel better. If Wright struggles to adapt its probably not a big issue.

Wright's now got two assists and is ranked in the top 10% of performing players this seasons so far (source whoscored.com - Cooky is the only other player higher)

Yet we still get these doubts about him at LWB.

Frankly, as we've seen with Halliday and at a higher level Trent AA - you are not going to get them ever to be perfect all the time. The position means they are totally isolated and the wide CB's have to cover that effectively.

Talent wise, he looks above L2 level. Needs to read the game a bit better. But so far so good and well done to GA - because ever since he put in that position he's averaged 7/10.

We're asking him to learn a new position so you have to accept he won't do the defensive side as well. Obviously GA has done that but believes his attacking output will make that worth it and it has so far. Got a few assists already hasn't he. Tyreiks a very good young player who could play higher. If we want to go more defensive then Richards is there but I'd see that as quite a negative move to be honest.
I'm expecting Shepherd to take Kellys place eventually so we'll see how that affects Wright

I'll trust my own eyes and other fans eyes rather than who scored.com algorithm thank you.

It had him down as a 7.9 on Saturday when 18,000 could see he was absolutely awful in attack and defence.

He probably got 5 marks for the assist. Just because he put in one good cross, doesn't make it a good performance, he made a balls of 3 crosses in the first half and was twice clean through in the second before making a terrible decision.

We haven't even got started on the poor defending and lack of effort tracking back

Exactly. I'm staggered by the 2 posters above who think he's better than L2 level. Even if we ignore his defending on Saturday, to produce just one decent cross from the amount of possession he had in dangerous areas wasn't good enough.
