Are we desperately short in a particular part of the squad? I mean we haven't got a first choice starter for that place?
If yes, then we need to act fast. If it's more of a back up, then what's the rush?
We may have players lined up and it's just a case of getting the signings across the line.
We've already been told by the club it's only 2/3 more incoming players so hardly a crisis.

Left Wing Back is a big hole. Apart from that, we're pretty well stocked. Whether we have the quality will only be shown over time, but I think it is a case of 2 to 3 more and that's it. Get those right, and we're fine I think. That left side needs sorting though.

We do have Richards and at a push Gillead there at the moment though so it's not like if we don't get someone in tomorrow we're going to be lost when the season starts in a month's time

We need better if we want promotion. Gillead is a decent squad option, but Richards needs to be a 3rd choice for that role.

Big season for Richards. He has a bit of an injury prone tag on him after both his Harrogate spells were crocked with time away and also his first season for us he seemed to have 2 or 3 spells of getting into the side, maybe 5 or 6 starts then picking up an injury and missing 5 or 6. The final 13 games of the season were the longest he was available to us last season and started 7 of those, but didn't start any of the last 5, which tells me maybe GA isn't sold on him either?

Turns 23 in the Autumn, so there's plenty of time but fingers crossed he's past his injury issues and kicks on.

Disagree on Richards, think he's a good option there if he stays fit - think there's a real player in there, though I would want him as back up rather than first choice preferably. My point was just that there's no need to panic that we don't have anyone to play there as we have 5 weeks to til the season starts and in the meantime have two players there who are capable at the very least

Spot on LWB followed by a CB then squad fillers or a top class loan to cover a couple of positions on the back line perhaps?

No. We need a proper left wing back. (I'd also say we need another strong centre back @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam )

Remember those 2 or 3 horrendous seasons before Halliday joined and we had no proper right back? It was a joke. That's what this season is looking like on the left side unless we bring someone in. It completely hampers our attacking play without a naturally left sided player at left wing back.

I’m not convinced about Richards as LWB nor in the back three whatsoever. Not big enough nor strong enough. Bit like Jon Thomkinson?

I know what has been said about getting players in before pre season starts but I don't think anyone would complain about signings the quality of burke and Cullen arriving a bit after everyone else has filled their quotas. I will feel as dejected as the next man if all the talk was hot air and appeasement but I'm hoping GA gets who he wants not who fans clamour for

Richards is basically a centre back. He could learn a trade at left wing back but given GA played Wright there instead, it concerns me that GA doesn't feel like he can do the job there. I am hopeful that given Sharpe has come in and given we have a recruitment specialist in Gent, that we are definitely lining up bringing someone in.

Did not realise Richards was that young. He needs better competition there for sure but he's another decent prospect we've got

Think he needs a long spell but he's just never been fit enough to have the long spell. Not sure what his position is though. I dont think he is a wing back who will get up and down but also have the quality to get enough assists. As you say, doesn't have the stature of a CB either.

If this is another in and out season for him, his CV isn't going to be a good look. As said he is going to turn 23 relatively early in the season and at the minute he has 31 career league starts under his belt. Needs a big season otherwise he could end up another Pereira, Odusina type having to drop to NL to try kick start their careers again in their mid 20's.

Yep like you say he needs a good run and to establish his position. Certainly not a left back in a back 4, that was awful away at Notts. Looks like its either Tyreik Wright or another young lad on loan he'll be competing with, he's got to back himself to be starting most games.

I think its a big season for ALL our sick notes. We've got quite a few who could do with a full season or thereabouts on their CV. Pattison for example, has made seven appearances for us. That's not good enough. I'm also worried what if Sam Walker injures himself - is Doyle capable of playing well? Despite seemingly having cover for most positions, I feel the back ups are exactly that - they aren't players on the same level pushing for a starting place.

I wonder if all the long term sick notes from last season are now fully fit again and raring to go? Obviously Pattison was the main one, and Stubbs & Young were out for a significant length of time
