Stable as in solid League 1 finishes, an established squad, a playing model an experienced manager, settled back room environment.

Rahic came in and upset the applecart - Parkinson scarpered, McCall came in and had sh1t to deal with from day 1, back room staff leaving left right and centre. After McCall left, no one would touch us with a barge pole and we ended up with Michael Collins. 2018/19 was one of the lowest ebbs the club has ever seen and you’ve got one man to thank for that.

My comment was very tongue in cheek.

I’ve been driving a particular brand of “German shite” car for the last 20 years.

    Back on topic now please.

I'm sorry Onside but that's wrong on a number of levels. Man City played a season in league 1 but never at this level and sure a relegation can almost be a novelty to some, like when Leeds initially went down to league 1 and saw teams they'd never expect. But that wasn't my point anyway, my point was over a prolonged period of going on 70 years, not having a season at a new level. Had Man City spent as long as we had in league 2 they'd be no bigger than Stockport and had they gone down to league 2 after a year or two the numbers would soon start to drop.

Yep.... so the season ended May 19th. The transfer window officially opened June 14th. Up to June 14th which is about 6 weeks after we had our final game....

    Accrington - 3 in before June 14th
AFC Wimbledon - 4 in before June 14th
    Barrow - 2 in before June 14th
Bradford City - 4 in before June 14th
    Bromley - 1 in before June 14th
    Carlisle - 3 in before June 14th
    Cheltenham - 3 in before June 14th
    Chesterfield - 5 in before June 14th
    Colchester - 4 in before June 14th
    Crewe - 2 in before June 14th
    Doncaster - 4 in before June 14th
    Fleetwood - 1 in before June 14th
    Gillingham - 4 in before June 14th
    Grimsby - 3 in before June 14th
    Harrogate - 0 in
MK Dons - 4 in before June 14th
Morecambe - yet to sign anyone
    Newport - 3 in before June 14th
Port Vale - 1 in before June 14th
    Salford - 1 in before June 14th
    Swindon - 4 in before June 14th
    Tranmere - 2 in before June 14th
    Walsall - 1 in before June 14th

We had 13 clubs sign 3 or more players, only Harrogate and Morecambe had yet to sign anyone. We weren't as ahead of the pack as we might think....

After losing the 1981 FA Cup final, Manchester City went through a period of decline, culminating in relegation to the third tier of English football for the only time in their history in 1998. They since regained promotion to the top tier in 2001–02 and have remained a fixture in the Premier League since 2002–03.

cracking @Jordan@Jordan , now just wait to be asked how many of those are better than what we have signed, at what level they were signed from and what they had for breakfast this morning to prove that their diet isnt as good as Aiden Baldwins and as such why he had such a lucky escape and why we target first class players who dont eat beans

This is said about at least 1 team in our league every season, and they end up proving everyone wrong

Last season it was Crawley (relegation favourites) and they went up. Season before it was Stevenage (relegation favourites) - they went up. Season before that - Forest Green....

I think Morecambe will be up there again, being labelled a team of thrown together misfits often galvanises a certain team spirit that is hard to come by. I hope I am wrong, as I dislike Morecambe and deluded Derek

Cant be arsed loading up the pages again to see how many signed new contracts, or had injured players coming back "that feel like new signings" either. Ah well, it helped pass the 4 hour ted talk on ever changing marketing strategies I'm currently sitting through :D

OMG. Those TED videos my employer ties me down to watch each year are horrendous and mind numbing. Roll on slightly early retirement next summer!

Hour after hour of buzz words, how everyone needs to think outside the box, collaborate, innovation, all that crap. Really fun isn't it!

Not including players signed on new deals , aka Halliday? No different to a new signing imho, especially as he could have picked most of the money clubs in L1/2?

In that interim period Chesterfield added one so 5 in total compared to our 5 if we include Halliday. Like I said we can make stats fit if we want. And not really comparibleespecially if we add Young and Pattison ?

Jesus wept, I'm not going through 24 clubs again to see how many signed new deals or who was in the physio room during the spring :D

I was only basing it on transfers, new faces to change a team. Us and a third of the league ended up getting faces in early, most the others have now kicked on and we haven't added since May. We might have gotten what we need early? Fingers crossed? But we still need that 2 or 3 that GA said he wanted a month ago. I'm optimistic we will try and get one in before Chorley, certain will want those in before the squad gelling trip to Austria.

IBecause basic stats don’t tell the full story as I pointed out. Why people are fixated on getting transfers in the building in short order is beyond me. They either want the correct fit and best available player to come in on acceptable terms or alternatively get any old dross in to make up the numbers, just to satisfy statistics and people’s ego’s ?
We have had that too many times in the past. The right quality person for the job should be our mantra going forward irrespective of what others are or arnt doing. The total numbers you kindly quote are on the whole comparable between most clubs bar the odd one or two. All depends on squad sizes per each club budget and remaining contracts within those squads .
