I can’t agree with at one iota BL. Yes he started off shakily without question, however since his return from Brentford, injury and inclusion in the starting 11 , he for me was one of the most improved players in the side during the run in. I’m not saying he’s the finished article, but I’d give him a two year deal , no question.

 

Considering Oyegokes age I'd be happy to sign him. But not convinced he would be a nailed on starter for the full season.

Only to a certain extent and only if they have the physical attributes. You saw the disaster that was Liam Ridhalgh playing there and I'm absolutely certain that the likes of Halliday, Stephen Darby and Wayne Jacobs would have struggled if they ever played centrally.

You mean out of contract players? They even offered players deals to renew but they are being turned down, aka Sarcevic. Clearly they want more money or decent length deals, it’s not because they don’t deem them good enough if they are offering new deals ? Some of course will be let go, ie fringe players.

Byrne I believe had an offer from a L1 club as well as L2 clubs.
Johnson is on a one year deal, a low risk signing who we can release if we get promoted and we think he isn't L1 standard.

 

Yes time will tell, let's see how things shape up. Part of the point I was trying to make was that even if we make a signing that wouldn't have been my first choice as long as that player was someone GA was happy with then I will back him and that player.
That is obviously until the Graham Alexander route doesn't look like it is going to work out.

 

I wouldn't worry about it. I'd say that the vast majority of our current squad would need replacing, bit by bit in league one. Let's learn to walk before we try to run.

 

If we do get promoted and want to offload a number of players it won't be a problem because there will be no shortage of takers for them in league 2.

Talk of signing Oyegoke is insane. 3 players that can play at right back, 6 that can play in central midfield, and 5 that can play in central defence... At this point, we'd only sign Oyegoke if we were going to lose control of squad numbers again.

We badly need left wing backs as Wilson in that position is spurious at best, we might need one more outright central defender, but not right sided, surely, the rest really need to be replacements if we can offload people like Wilson/McDonald/Oliver and if anyone happens to swoop for Young, who I suspect we'd sell.

But yeah.

I'd actually be concerned we didn't know what we were doing if we signed Oyegoke.

 

Yes Johnson signing probably confirms Oyegoke isn't coming back. A Centre half, a Left wing back and we're actually nearly there already

 

I don't see much room for trimming the squad though.

I can certainly see the rationale for one in, one out though.
