get the group together early. Get them fit. Have a clear strategy. Drill the players into playing that way. Reap the benefits.

Hughes ruined everything by ripping up the squad, switching formation with an ill equipped group, and confusing the players.

Byrne and Johnston aren’t marquee signings but if they are good lads, add something to the group and impart the winning mentality on the snowflakes, they’ll be good signings.

i don’t think we actually need a higher budget than that we had this year tbh. We need better characters in the group and players that don’t wilt under pressure.

 

Wise words mate. Character is important at any level but you are bang right about this level where a lot of the players much of a richness when it comes to ability.

 

Last season the squad shit its pants whenever the pressure of making the play offs was on.

In our last few matches when he went central he was our best defender and contributed going forward and before his injury he was improving playing wide on the right. He would be a good option for the team

 

If we are playing three centre half’s a fit Johnson is a good option. We need cover and competition accross the defence as well as other areas of the pitch. No one should be considered a squad player just judged on who deserves the place

As long as the injury is behind him, its another defender in the building and we have needed proper back up to Hallliday.
27 is a good age and he has a bit of winning experience.

Oyegoke massively improved at the tail end of last season and has all the attributes to be a very good player. Whether they'll be used by him and he'll develop or not is a different matter.

My concern over Johnson is that, if he is used primarily in a centre half role, that he's only ever played there 12 times in his entire career and for me that's a massive risk.

If he's back up and used in multiple roles then I've no problem at all and he sounds like he'll be a very useful squad member, unlike players such as Hendrie in the past.

 

Obviously we'll have to see how the squad shapes up and who else he brings in defensively. For me though, we still haven't improved the centre half position and we're still in need of two left sided wing backs, even if one is another utility type man.

It's early days but I feel now that we need to target that back line and get some serious strength into it. If we can do that, I think GA will have given himself a great chance at achieving promotion this year.
