I know my post is probably for the general chat thread, I saw something yesterday that we should all boycott the mainstream media outlets as they are usually biased towards their political alignments (eg BBC & Daily Mirror totally for the lefties, GB news generally for the righties) and most of the voting general public are easily swayed by what they see in the mainstream media. It stinks but that is the way it is, and has been for a long time I suppose

Apparently one of the suggested apps to have for unbiased news is called Ground News, and shows you how they spin the headline depending on what side of the agenda they are trying to push, but unfortunately you need to pay for the subscription

If you think the BbC is a left leaning broadcaster you are perhaps reading the wrong runes. It’s run and populated by Conservative placements who have been put in place over the last 14 years . That’s not bias on my part that’s an absolute recognised public and documented fact.

The tax take we have suffered for the last three years imposed by the blonde obese lying criminal has become ridiculous . £900 rise in the state pension more than half of it taken away in tax without lifting a finger !
Any guesses who the Chancellor was at the time ? The one and only Richman Sunak !

I only suggested the BBC due to their disgraceful coverage of the daily news updates during the whole Covid fiasco. The way they allowed the likes of Kuensberg and Peston to be so negative left an extremely sour taste in my mouth

Thank your lucky start you have retired and drawn your pension.
I think some of the younger generation will have to work until they are 70 before they get anything from the state.

Was going to post something similar Andy. I'm not at retirement age yet but I'm lucky enough to have had a free university education, was able to buy my first house at 22 with a 100% mortgage, and still afford to run a car and have 2 holidays a year on a pretty mediocre salary at the time. That's why this idea of national service for young people to 'give something back' when they've never had the opportunities we had really does my head in.

The BBC have said on occasion having being accused of bias, if they are getting it from both sides of the political spectrum then they are getting it right. I gave up watching all news channels and political talking shops approx 3 years ago, as it was bad for my mental health.

I am retired now, and I still pay tax. The impact of the triple lock should have been much better, but politicians doing their usual card tricks give with one hand take with another. I recognise that the effects of COVID on the economy has and is having a massive impact. I said at the time despite reassurances from the politicians that this would require increases in taxes. What I would like is honesty, an announcement to the public of higher taxation would have been more honest.

It will only have an impact on your state pension your other income savings and secondary pensions will feel the weight of the drag of frozen personal allowance's.

Don’t forget the pensioner on the state pension ONLY, will be subject to tax by 2028 from memory , less than 4 years! ( Sunak imposition) Any pensions over and above the state pension has already been paid for and
“ banked” ( saved up) by the recipient and his/ her employer so that is an irrelevance.
Admins please move if desired as off topic.

Fiscal mismanagement and a lack of a sound manufacturing base by any Government is the driver to high taxation pure and simple .

I’ll say no more as it’s getting political

There are many manual jobs, which will be very difficult to carry on doing over the age of 60, never mind 75. Frontline Police, firefighters etc. l certainly wouldn’t be able to work in some of those occupations.

Which is why police and firefighters are able to retire at 55 on a decent occupational pension. It’s the state retirement pension age that keeps going up.

After 44 years in the building trade , wet through and freezing in winter, generally wet most of the summer and lifting heavy weights all year round, 60 is the cut off without a doubt.
I would love to get an MP on site with me, earning about a quarter of what they do.
That retirement age would soon come down.

Absolutely Rod. It’s scary for them, especially looking back to working in heavy engineering. I really feel for them.
